Why or why not? Do you have one you love (or hate)? Tell me about it!
FWIW, I'm planning to register for a City Mini as our main stroller.

I have really limited storage space, so I am not registering for pretty much anything I won't use in the first 6 months. From what I'm told, most people use a snap and go frame with the infant car seat for the first almost year (when not using the big "real" stroller), so I figure I'll get an umbrella stroller after a year or so and will be able to better understand what I want from one (will I care about recline, or will weight be most important? Cost?)
We have an UB Vista as our main stroller, so I'm also not keen on spending much more on a stroller right now!!

@Foodnerd81: That's a great idea. I'm really not sure what features I would be looking for in an umbrella stroller either since we wouldn't use it for probably the first 6 months.

We have a City Mini and have never seen the need for an umbrella stroller.
When LO was tiny, we used the City Mini with the carseat adapter. When she was around 6 months, we'd use the City Mini without the adapter. We also have a BOB for running. Those are the only 2 strollers we have.

@Cara M. 17: I mean, the only downside is then you'll have to pay for it yourself, rather than have it gifted, but that's OK with me! I'd rather get what works best for us at the time.

I love my Maclaren Triumph! I started using it from about 6 months. It is super light and easy to fold. However, it is not my main stroller...I only use it for travel (and when I'm walking to one particular friend's apartment that requires me to squeeze through a narrow sidewalk space). So if you don't anticipate a lot of air travel with your baby, maybe skip it for now? If cost is a concern in the future, you can probably pick up a used umbrella stroller in great condition for a fraction of the original cost, since most people get them as secondary strollers and don't put a lot of wear and tear on them.

@Bluebonnet: We are planning to register for the newborn adapter as well and also registering for the Bob!
@foodnerd81: Very true, getting a gift is nice but not if it isn't what will work best when you're ready to use it.
@pinkelephant: That's the one we were looking at. Glad to know you like it!

We have registered for the B-Agile and B-Safe system. I found that Britax makes an "umbrella" stroller called the B-Nimble...its very light weight and folds down completely. The B-Safe will snap into it. The B-Nimble is $199 (if I buy it I will obviously save 20% using a coupon) and the snap n go's are pushing $100 anyways so for me, I am just getting the B-Nimble which will have many purposes (travel, quick trips out) both as an infant and a toddler- for us it was a better deal!

If you have a city mini, then I don't think it's necessary, as a city mini is pretty much like a really really nice umbrella stroller (lightweight, easy to fold, small, etc).

Yes. We loved our main stroller and I couldn't imagine why I'd want an umbrella until we had to buy one for when we visited my mom. The plan was to leave it there. We loved it so much we brought it back with us and 9 out of 10 times we bring that I stead of our main one!
It's just so compact!

@Cara M. 17: We have the City Mini and it is pretty light weight and folds super easy. Some places actually call it an umbrella stroller, although to me it is not one, but just to give you an idea. The only down side to it compared to umbrella strollers is while it folds rather flat, it doesn't fold into an extremely small rectangle and takes up some space.
At one time we were going to get an UppaBaby G-lux for an umbrella stroller. I LOVED it when we tried it out, but we just never purchased it and I honestly don't feel we need it at this point. DS is 2 and I have no issues using the City Mini still.

@Ash: OMG thank you...I have never bought anything from NBD...is open and resealed generally good quality? Can you return?

I personally see no point in having two strollers and I have the space to store both.
@Mrs D: yes, "open & resealed" means exactly that. The box was open then resealed. Generally the items are still in mint condition. I have purchased numerous items from them. The only time something was defective they took it back no problem.

We keep the main stroller in my car and a cheap $20 umbrella stroller in DH's car. I didn't register for it though we just bought one on our own a few months ago when we realized transferring the bigger one was a pain.

@Mrs D: I bought our Britax Chaperone from NBD and it's perfect condition! They won't send it out if it's in bad shape... I had an order get cancelled because the product was broken. I would think you could return...

If you're getting a City Mini I wouldn't register for an umbrella stroller. (unless you plan on traveling a lot and want something light and cheap to take with you).
Our main stroller was a snap and go until she grew out of her infant seat. Then we started using our Maclaren Umbrella. At 26 months we still use it for DD.

I would hold off on registering for an umbrella stroller. You will be able to reevaluate your needs when your LO is ready for an umbrella and be able to find the perfect one.
