Is it OK to send gifts to my shower hostesses after the fact with a nice thank you note or is it preferable to give them out the day of? I am sort of scrambling because my mom and sisters were/are hosting but due to a family emergency note my mil and sil and stepping in and helping a ton since the shower is this weekend.
Any suggestions for cute gifts for five people?

I picked up potted orchids at Lowes as shower gifts. They came in cute little pots and didn't require any ordering or anything. Just a thought!

@Cole: my FIL sent us a gift basket full of New Orleans goodies like pralines. It was such a treat for us. What's your city known for?

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Pralines would be amazing! We're known for cars and blight- bet you can't guess where I live! (And I LOVE it here, those two things are such a tiny piece of this place, i hate that it gets a bad reputation)
There are some fun local places though like a place that roasts nuts that come in old fashioned bags, faygo soda in glass bottles, and I could probably find a few other fun things to put in a basket.

@Cole: hmm I did a search and think your state is famous for cherries and peppermint. Those are two items you can definitely send in the mail. Peppermint candy and hot chocolate yum!

It's not Detroit, but it's Michigan...you can order gift boxes of varying prices from Benjamin Twigg (cherry products), Cherry Republic, and American Spoon Foods (Mochigan made jams, salsas, BBQ sauce, etc.)

I think they will be appreciate whether they get it the day of or later. And I love the idea of something delicious to eat. The pralines sound really good.
