Where do you buy your shrimp? What is a good price for it? I have bought it at Costco but it hurts every time we buy a 2lb bag there. That being said, the shrimp we have gotten there have always seemed like they were good quality.

I purchase ours at our local kroger or publix. I only buy shrimp from our state (GA) and the price hurts. We rarely, if ever, eat shrimp anymore. The last time I bought it was $9.99 per lb.

We buy from our grocery store. I buy the already peeled and de-veined shrimp and it's usually $7.99-8.99 a lb.
@Tanjowen: GA white gulf shrimp are the best! I'd happily pay $10/lb if I could find it fresh around here. I'm in central FL, so you'd think it wouldn't be too hard to find, but for some reason it seems grocers only ever carry previously frozen imported shrimp, which is nowhere near the same.

Since I don't have the time to peel and devein, I but frozen, peeled deveined, raw shrimp. I honestly usually buy it at Target where it is $10 a pound. At my grocery store, it's $16 a pound and I try to keep dinner meats at or below $10 a lb. It sometimes will go on sale at whole foods, but at the family owned grocery store near me it never is on sale!

I think costco has a good price on them. If we buy the bag, it will last us a while.

If you can find a Chinese market by you, go there! Fresh unpeeled/head on shrimp right now in NY is like 3 lbs for $10~

We buy ours frozen, from the grocery store when they offer it for $10 off. It is then about $15 for for the bag, which I would guess is a pound (prefrozen weight).

Publix- jumbo, frozen with shells & tails on. I pay anywhere from $9.99 to $16.99/ bag. If I was a better meal planner I'd just stock up when they were on sale.

Shrimp is a staple protein in our house! Dh buys jumbo shrimp at Kroger when there's a sale and stocks up. I buy a couple Costco bags for any gaps In between, but the raw jumbo shrimp from Kroger tastes better and isn't as rubbery as the Costco sheimp!

Same as Tanjowen; US Gulf shrimp only (the imported and/or farmed ones are almost always bad news for the environment, and probably also human health), and they're pricey (at least $10/lb.) at the local grocery stores, so I do not buy them often.

@honeybear: I'm on the East Coast but I feel like I rarely see U.S. Gulf Shrimp in our markets. Maybe we're too far away? Such a bummer. I would happily pay a premium for it (though it would have to be an occasional indulgence!).

The tastiest shrimp I have ever eaten is Whole Foods. Second best is Costco.

@mrsjyw: We buy ours from Kroger also. They're always running deals on their jumbo shrimps. Each bag will last us 2-3 meals.

@Pancakes: I've had good luck making requests at the local fish counter and the stand-alone fish shop sometimes carries it. I'd ask the managers at your local stores! And I agree--definitely an occasional indulgence.
