After a nasty 8-9 month regression and developing some bad habits, we're re-sleep training LO. He did great the first time and we're hoping for success again so he can fall asleep independently.
We're doing cry it out with occasional checks which worked well last time. This round the first night he cried 30 minutes then slept through the night. Yay! His morning nap he cried 30 minutes then slept. Afternoon nap barely cried and a long nap. Second night barely cried and slept through again. So it seemed to be working. Then yesterday for his afternoon nap everything went off the rails. He flipped out for over an hour and was hysterical. No settling. We finally put him in the stroller. Ugh. For night we let him cry but this time was a full hour. Ugh. This morning he was hysterical again. Missed his nap. Tried again an hour later. Hysterical and wouldn't sleep. Now in the stroller for his seemingly only nap of the day because I want him to at least get some sleep before we attempt bedtime.
Any idea WHY this is happening or have the same thing happen to you? When they get so worked up for a nap that they can't settle what do you usually do? Is he just going on some sort of sleep strike that will pass?
I will note that the first time we ST, we only did night and not naps, and eventually naps just got better on their own once he figured out night. But back then, he was smaller, and I was bouncing him/using the pacifier, neither of which I can/want to do for him anymore (and he's not really receptive to those methods anymore anyway). I'm really at a loss and so sad from hearing so much crying the past couple days
