So we moved my son into his nursery 3 days ago - his sleep has been great but I've been struggling 
I think I worry that he is going to wake up, so I stay awake waiting to hear him. Last night he actually slept from 730-450 with no wake ups, but I was up and down from about 1, thinking every time he stirred that I would have to feed him.
I have a video monitor by my side of the bed but truthfully if he were to cry for a feed I would hear him (nursery is 2 doors down from us).
If you were me would you turn the monitor off? Turn the sound off? Move the baby back into our room (he's 3.5 months). Take sleeping pills and hope he doesn't want to eat (halfway kidding about that last one - but a few more nights of this and I won't be!!).

So our nursery is two doors down-there's our master bath, the other bathroom, and then her room. We turn the sound off and can hear her if she gets to crying, but I don't hear all the little fussing and noises she makes. The sound on the monitor makes me too hyper aware. It did take me awhile to start sleeping soundly, once we moved her, though. I actually used to sleep with ear plugs occasionally ....doesn't work if you're BFing

I turned the monitor down to the lowest setting so I wouldn't hear every stir but could look at her whenever I wanted. I understand where you are coming from, I was the same way but it didn't last long at all!

Turn the sound to the lowest possible setting or off completely, since your LO is near! I still have to do this and LO is getting close to 2. She's a loud sleeper.

I turned our volume off for the same reasons @blackbird mentioned. It takes awhile to adjust! For the first few nights we moved him I swore I heard him crying, but when I checked the monitor he was out cold

I made DH sleep with the monitor on his side, lol! He still doesn't hear it (often) and I don't wake up to every single rustle! Win/win. And honestly, even though our kids are on the other end of the hallway, I have been woken from deep sleep by their crying, even when the monitor was accidentally off,...and even though they weren't crying very loud. Gah! Mommy instinct=i will never sleep soundly again.

Okay, I'm so happy that I'm not the only one!! Everyone always seems to say that they sleep so much better once the baby is out of their room...I thought I was a major anomaly!

I put the monitor on the lowest possible volume and put it on DH's side. The little noises don't wake him and if there's a big mouse that I don't hear, DH will tell me. It's still on his side at 21 months!

Definitely turn the monitor to the lowest setting. LO slept on our room for 6 months. I slept terribly for almost a month after we moved her to her room but I did get used to it. I only wake up if she does now.

I turn the sound of our monitor off! I can still hear him when he cries, but if he just is grunting or moving around, it doesn't wake me up. Though our bedroom shares a wall with the nursery, so it's a little different. I'd just make sure you can hear him from your room when he's crying and if you can, keep the sound off!

We're right next door to the nursery, so I can easily hear him if he's really up. I turned the sound down, but got used to it after a little while and now I have it back up because I also have a fear that he will cry and I won't hear him (not even possible, but still).

for the first 6 months, we didn't have a monitor. after we got one, i use it only to visually check on him--i turn off the sound. i'm like you in that my mind is on hyper alert mode when i think i hear him, so it's just better for me if i turn the volume off. i have no problems hearing him.

I'm still struggling with this. We sleep trained/crib & nursery transitioned at 6 months. Almost 2 months later I still find myself waking up randomly to check the monitor to see if she's awake. I wish I could just SLEEP, especially because she's been waking up lately at night!!!

Our monitor has a sensitivity setting that you can adjust. We have it to where the monitor is effectively off, but if she starts to cry it comes on. If she just grunts or coughs it doesn't come on.

We keep the volume on the lowest setting. Her room is on the other side of the house, so we have to keep the volume on.
