Does it bother you when there are bad southern accents? (And I've found that they're almost ALWAYS bad!) It seems actors either want to do an exaggerated Alabama-drawl or over-the-top Appalachian twang.
I roll my eyes and want to throw stuff at the screen. It kills me. The worst is when an actor from the south still butchers the accent!

Haha whenever I hear someone on tv that's suppose to be from the south (or on realty tv...especially from around NC) I'm like "OMG do we really sound like that?!?!?!" I normally get a good laugh from it.

Yes! It bugs me so much. Nicholas Cage did a really bad one. I forgot the name of the movie though.

I've wondered if people who haven't spent time in the south recognize how bad some of the southern accents can be.

Anna Paquin on True Blood really bugs me. I'm not entirely familiar with authentic southern accents but hers just sounds wrong.

This makes me LOL! I feel the same way about Canadian 'accents'. We don't all talk like we're from backwoods Newfoundland!
I also love on reality TV (*cough*teen mom*cough*) when they have to subtitle the really thick accents (I'm looking at you Corey!)

I also really hate when Southerners on t.v. amp up their accents and exaggerate them . . . I'm lookin' at you Reba McEntire!

By the same token bad Britsh accents on TV reeeeaaaaaly annoy me. Either hire someone British or don't bother. Lots of fake 'Cheerio Guv'nors' do my head in.

@Plantains: I read a linguistics expert dissect why Anna's accent is so wrong. Discussion of dipthongs and monothongs and glides....basically, it's all wrong! If you click on that link I posted earlier, you can see people doing some awful accents (not just southern ones). It seems lazy to me.
@PrettyLizzy: I feel like Canadians accents including lots of "ehs." Are the subtitles really needed, or are they trying to be funny?
