Hey, why not join in the name craze right now? 
We have a fairly firm name in mind for this LO, but I'm not certain on the spelling for the middle name. We want the name to come from Roslin, as in Laura Roslin on Battlestar Galactica. (And as a bonus we can call her Rosie from Lord of the Rings sometimes, or likely less often, Rose from Doctor Who. So we get a three for one on the nerd front with a name we really like regardless of association.) So my first thought is Rosalyn. But I'd like to keep the 2 syllables, if possible, which would be maybe Roslyn? I don't feel super strongly about the 2 syllables, but it would sound better since the first name is 3. Except I don't love that spelling. And Rosalyn would likely get pronounced like Roslyn at least some of the time, I would think, especially since we live in the South. And it's a middle name that she wouldn't go by, so I'm overthinking it anyway. But what do you think?

I'd go with Roslin or Roslyn. But I like Rosalyn too. I just think Rosalyn would end up being pronounced "Rose-a-lyn" a lot, which isn't a tragedy.

I think I'd go with Roslin since that's where the name comes from. Definitely 2 syllables and can still nn Rose/Rosie if you wanted to. How feminine is the first name? If it's more masculine/androgynous then maybe you'd want a more feminine version like Roslyn/Rosalyn (of which I like Rosalyn better).

I would definitely pronounce Rosalyn with 3 syllables. Rosalynn I would also do 3 syll but I would also pronounce that differently than Rosalyn (more like Rose-a-lynn, than rahz-a-lynn).
Why not just do Roslin?

I like Roslyn/Roslin but since you don't love the Y spelling I think you should stick with the original Roslin.

In general, I prefer the -lin instead of -lyn endings. -

@TemperanceBrennan: I do too normally, except in this case it feels a little made up. Roslin is something like 18,000 for name popularity last year. Which I actually like, since we don't love common names, but I don't want it to sound like we just made it up either.

But you didn't make it up! It's from Laura Roslin.
If I wasn't familiar with Laura Roslin, I wouldn't think "Roslin" was any more made-up than "Roslyn".
Also, a quick peek on different naming websites show that it is a "real" name.
"First name origins & meanings:
Spanish: Pretty rose
Latin: A flower
French: Little red-haired one
Scottish: Redhead; explosive"Apparently it was traditionally a boy's name is of Scottish and Gaelic origin meaning little red-head
AND it come up a lot as a last name when I searched.
All that to say, I wouldn't worry about it

I'd do Roslin. It looks nice. But are you wanting it to sound like Rose-Lynn? Because I think most people will say Roz-Lynn unless there's an "e" after the "ros".

Roslyn reminds me of the cafe in the show Northern Exposure... showing my age a bit here. I'd always thought it was pretty.
