The maternity picture thread made me think about newborn pictures. I don't dislike pictures of newborns as a rule or anything, but I kind of find the ones of them sleeping and propped up on stuff kind of creepy. We didn't get any pro pictures of my daughter until she was old enough to be awake in them.
But I know a lot of people LOVE the sleepy baby pictures. How do you feel?

I don't like the ones where they are propped up in unnatural positions. No babies lay with their heads on their hands, propped up on elbows. I mean, come on. I do think some sleepy baby pictures of babies laying on blankets or in their cribs are special, though. I don't plan on spending money on newborn pictures but I do plan on taking lots and LOTS of pictures of our LO when she is first born. I did buy a white blanket from Ikea to use for said pictures so they have just her and a simple background.

I like newborn photos that aren't SUPER posed (like @mediagirl said-- none w/ their heads propped up on their hands, please). But I like seeing them curled up and sleeping.
I'm trying to find an up-and-coming photog to do our newborn photos, because there is no way in hell I am going to spend $500+ for some pictures of a sleeping baby-- even if it's my sleeping baby!

Those super posed/baby in baskets kind of thing creep me out too so we didn't do those. There was a photographer in the hospital and he got a few sweet shots of us just holding the LO. They came out great and that was our newborn photo shoot.

I like them, however I enjoy the ones when they are older better. When they get too "Anne Geddes" it freaks me out a little.

I like normal pictures when the babies aren't contorted into awkward positions.

I love newborn pictures...but I agree, the ones where they're super posed are awkward and creepy. @jessiejo17: YES totally agree. I also hate ones where they're suspended in things like hammocks or stockings. It makes me SO nervous!

Sorry if this is blasphemy, but most newborns are not that cute. I much prefer pictures of older babies.

We kept our lo's pictures very simple. I wanted the focus on her, not props and clothes.

as a newborn photographer, i love them. 
i'm totally with y'all though... the modern poses and props are creepy as heck. i keep all of my newborns sessions as natural and authentic as possible. whoever thought to put a baby on his/her elbows anyway?!

The kind of newborn pictures that we are getting will be done in the hospital. We’d like to have some special moments in our son’s first few days of life captured as memories. There won’t be any “in the delivery room” pictures but I’d like a picture of my husband announcing the news to family in the waiting room, reactions, baby first meeting all of the immediate family, a picture of baby with our name on his little bracelet, etc.
I also think the newborn pictures propped into weird positions are a little awkward…even though some can be unbelievably cute!

I don't mind the ones of them propped up but some of the unnatural positions look almost dangerous... I read somewhere not to bring baby's legs up to their chest, and so many of these pictures have a baby "sitting" in that position...
Anyway, we didn't do super posed shots, but I love our newborn pics.

I like newborn pictures but some of them make me think "ouch that looks uncomfortable." I also think some moms go overboard, but that's just my personal opinion, if that's what they want and they can afford it, great.
We will have some done because our hospital contracts with a photographer, so they will be done at the hospital. I was really happy to find that out!

I like newborn pictures. the baby was squished inside the womb anyway so I dont think the uncomfortable looking poses hurt the baby

I am not a fan of the super posed ones where the newborns is in odd/unnatural/uncomfortable looking poses or with unusual props; you just had a human baby, not a chicken is a basket full of feathers really necessary?
I took some shots of DD when the hospital photographer was there but otherwise they are all not posed, natural looking photos from home. First "professional" shots weren't done until she had school photos at daycare around 5 months.
