Did you buy a hospital gown?

I never thought I'd do this, but I was watching the latest Jim Gaffigan special (Mr. Universe... soooo funny) and he pointed out that someone could have just died in the hospital gown you put on!! Normally that kind of stuff doesn't phase me but for some reason it really hit home... so I started looking for maternity hospital gowns just for fun, and stumbled across this one for just $10!

So I ordered it! Got a coupon code so with shipping it was like $13 total. Can't go wrong with that, right?

I figure I'll just wear the hospital's gown for delivery, then change into this asap, and if I feel like it, I'll change into my own nightgown/robe afterwards.

Ewwwwwww I never thought of it that way! GROSS! Im totally ordering one for next time now .Luckily I only wore the hospital gown for my actual c-section. I stripped it off right after and had them put me in a maxi dress and stayed in that

Hahaha no this would never even cross my mind. The thing is... they bleach the crap out of hospital linens!

Bleh. Never thought of it that way!. I took my gown off almost right away after I took a shower. Put a nursing cami and had comfy pants on during my stay.

LOL that is kinda creepy... but all of the maternity gowns at my hospital are for baby mamas only. I guess someone still could have died in the same gown I'll wear, but the odds aren't as high.

I had good intentions of making one but I never got around to it. My family got a good laugh every time I said "Somebody could have died in the hospital gown" or "It might have old vomit on it." hahaha! I ended up not caring AT ALL. I wore the hospital gown for my entire stay.

Btw, $10 is a STEAL for a personal hospital gown! Those things can be pricey!!

I thought about it briefly only because I know that no hospital gown will fit me, so it'll be annoying to move around (but now that you mention it, it gives me the willies). Then this weekend my parents saw some cute hospital delivery gowns at a baby show and decided I HAD to have one. So now I have one, and my mom is going to try to copy it to make another so I can have a labor gown and one for after.

I didn't wear my gown for long either and I would have just thrown it out if I had bought one. I saw the gown after delivery, it wasn't pretty, I'm glad I didn't have to do the clean up.

I have no evidence to back this up, but I just assume that any gowns that people die in don't go back into the rotation.

But thinking about laboring moms bleeding all over the gown I will potentially wear grosses me out just as much.

yeah, that doesn't bother me a bit - I learned not to look at the toilet on the labor and delivery floor though, lol.. gross

I had a gown around me when I first got there but when I actually gave birth I was wearing a nursing tank hiked up. There was no longer a need for the gown. After I was properly stitched, I put on my bathrobe and pajamas.

I didn't think to buy a hospital gown for my delivery, but that one is super cute! If I was pregnant I'd definitely buy one

I don't want to speak for all hospitals, but the 2 hospitals I have worked at in Utah always keep the gowns after patients die. I really have never thought of this. But does that mean you will be bringing your own sheets and blankets as well?

I don't really care about the dead people, but I like the idea of wearing my own gown because I think it might make me feel more comfortable - the ordeal seems more "homey" or somehow less scary, if you get to wear YOUR stuff throughout the whole process.

Yuck. But I still wouldn't buy my own. I wanted to be in their gowns the whole time, so I'd need lots of them. I had a bad tear so it hurt to move. It was just easier to be in their stuff for going to the bathroom and when the nurses would come check my who-ha.

Haha. That is gross. But it is gross enough thinking about all the bodily fluids that have leaked onto the gown!

I used the hospital gown during delivery but then I changed into my own nursing dress and robe. I was so much more comfortable so I'm glad that I did that even though everyone tells you not to bring your own clothes.

Well I'm using a birth center, but I would bring my own gown anyway. My reasoning is that I'm going to feel much more comfortable and relaxed wearing something familiar.

I forgot to mention, when I delivered, I was wearing the shirt I was admitted in, a black and cream ruched tee from Motherhood. Nothing from the waist down and no gown for delivery. It was only put on me after.
