Or did/will you be buying it? It's kind of a tradition in our family (and in some circles of our friends) to make baby's first birthday cake, as opposed to buying it. I did cheat a little, and used a bought cake mix, but I made the icing from scratch, and obvs decorated it myself.
So, whether completely or semi-homemade, did/will you make your LO's first b-day cake?

I bet I will. I always make our cakes (we're not big on the taste of bakery frosting) so I'm sure I'll make our little one's first birthday cake.

We have a favorite bakery that we ordered his 1st birthday cake from. It was a 2 tiered fondant creation that we absolutely loved. We did a small smash cake for him too. This year for his 2nd birthday we did a single tier cake which was awesome as well. We'll probably continue with the single tier cake each year.
I did make the favors for his 1st birthday, which were 4 small sugar cookies decorated with royal icing in a clear plastic box tied with a ribbon. I'll never do that again!!! That was seriously painful.

I always make cakes for birthdays. So much cheaper and I don't find that bakery cake really tastes that much better.
Plus - a 1 year old doesn't appreciate a nice/fancy bakery cake. They just smash it.

My son is Milk and Soy Intolerant so I will definately be making his cake so I know it is "safe". I also want to reduce the amount of sugar he gets. We may buy a cake for our guests.

Since I used to make cakes for a living, it would be blasphemy if I didn't :). My LO is allergic to eggs & dairy so I used a vegan carrot cake recipe and made an individual 4" bunny cake for my LO and bunny cupcakes for the guests.
