So I live in a subdivision, and our house is a corner lot. It also a bus stop for school kids. There are about 5 or 6 little 7 year olds waiting for the school bus every morning. What kills me is that their parents DRIVE them to the bus stop, then sit in their cars to wait for the bus to get there. It kills me that these kids don't even walk to their own bus stops anymore.... seriously. It's not a busy street, it's not unsafe. Ugh, #firstworldproblems.

I hear you. I literally witnessed a mom come pick her preteen daughter up at the entrance of our neighborhood and drive her maybe 1/8 of a mile back home. I also saw a woman pull over and get her mail (our mailboxes are at the entrance) and then pull into a driveway literally two condos away from said mailboxes.
I fear for humanity!

Oh my God, that is so depressing. I never did the bus thing because I went to Catholic school and we didn't have buses, but I did walk to school. It was maybe half a mile away and it was totally fine - even in the city. The only time it was kind of terrible was in the winter, when my bare legs would freeze thanks to our uniform skirts.

I totally hear you on this. I want my kids to walk to school! It's a part of childhood!

I had to walk half a mile to and from my bus stop! And if I missed the bus I had to walk almost 4 miles home along the main road in town. A 2 lane highway! I was a total latch key kid. And our neighborhood was so far from the school and so big, they only had one stop.

@Mrs. Yoyo: seriously. Our mailbox is across the street from our house, and our neighbours drive there ALL.THE.TIME.

We always had to walk to our bus stop. Our stop was about two blocks away.

They do that on our street, but it's cold right now
I wonder if the parent leaves for work immediately after the kid gets on the bus?

Drives me nuts (the driving to bus stop and mailboxes) it's so sad.
Can't blame some kids if this is what their parents lead by example

@blackbird: It's cold here too, but no colder than it would be for the kids at recess so I don't get it.
@mrs. wagon: we were latchkey kids too. Walked to the bus stop, home again from there. If we missed the bus we walked all the way home.

I guess I was spoiled. I did walk a block to the bus stop until 2nd grade (with my older sister and brother) but then I switched schools to one that didn't have buses where I lived, so my mom drove us. In high school the bus picked me up at my house! (Though, I was the first stop at 6:30 am, so not THAT spoiled!)
I can kind of see driving a kid to the bus in this weather, especially if you are leaving right for work when they get picked up. I mean... it's really cold! However, I would never drive to the mail box. I mean, stop on my way if I was going past it in the car, but wouldn't go out of my way. I'm a city person, I walk everywhere.

@Foodnerd81: I could see it if it were weather-related, too, but the day I witnessed the girl getting chaufferred it was 60 and sunny!

Makes me appreciate my neighborhood. We live in a small suburb right outside the city...so small that we don't have school buses and kids mostly walk to school.
