I loved living in the country growing up and have lived in the suburbs (don't like). I want to try living in a city where we can walk to things!

I loved city living but I prefer suburban living with kids!

I like city living, but we couldn't afford to buy in the city, so we moved to the suburbs. I love the suburbs now!
I don't think I'd be a country girl though, I need to be close to shopping and amenities.

I prefer city, but I feel safer in the suburbs and like the community feel in our smaller town outside the city since its really historic. If we ever move though, it will be to urban/city and get a condo.
Grew up in country - and I'd never ever move back

LooooOOOoooove the country. I can appreciate the city when I visit big cities but they just aren't for me. I'm so on edge the whole time I'm there because people just seem like they're moving so fast...we're small town kind of folks

Country hands down. I've never liked crowded congested areas, I don't like the way suburbs can be cliquy (is that spelled right?!)
I've always lived on acreage and I love the peacefulness, I definitely not too far away from a town though!

Suburbs, but I wish our lot was bigger so that we were farther from our neighbors.

I'm from the country, so I naturally love city life. Perfection would be a place in the city & country. HATE the suburbs...

A cross between country and suburbs. For example, the house we are looking into buying has neighbors, but is on an acre and has a country feel. I love visiting the city, but would never want to live there.

city or the burbs. Love both! I hate living in the middle of nowhere. I hate feeling isolated.
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21628 posts
I've lived in all 3. I prefer the country... as long as its a reasonable distance from the city!

City all the way! Moved away once and moved back and sold our house within two months. Being away from the city freaked me out.

I love the country and I love the city.
Hate the suburbs, I would rather die than live there again.

City! I'm in the suburbs now and while I don't hate it, I really, really miss the liveliness of the city.

Started out as a major city girl (family is from NYC), grew up in the burbs, and now I desperately want to move to the country where DH grew up. I love the lifestyle out there!

City and country...we live in the city and will buy a place in the country as a vaca house!

I use to be a city girl but every time we go on road trips I imagine living in a big white house and owning horses in the country.
I live in the burbs and I don't care for it...the keeping up with the Joneses attitude isn't for me.

city girl all the way, preferably with a summer home in the country so we can have the best of both worlds long term dream!

I grew up in the city and now live in the burbs--I prefer the quiteness of the burbs but I do miss delivary/takeout after 10 pm.

CITY all the way. We live in the 'burbs now, and while we love our home, having neighbors all up in your business is definitely different (and sort of annoying). We live in a development so maybe things are different in our little cul de sac than normal. Also, there are literally NO takeout options, which stinks.

City! I grew up right on the line between the suburbs and city and currently live in the country.
We own a house in the burbs, but hope to move into the city eventually.

@hilsy85: That is like, the perfect situation. I am so envious!

@yoursilverlining: I only know 2 of my neighbors and they're never up in my business! If anything, they keep an eye out for us and notify us if we leave our headlights on or something is leaking (e.g. water, gas).
I grew up living in the burbs and currently live in the suburbs. The suburbs where I grew up was eh, but I currently LOVE the suburbs where I live now!
We also have a farm out in the country and enjoy our time there, but not sure I'm ready to fully commit living the country lifestyle. Getting to places is so far!! Plus, everyone knows about EVERYONE's business. Not sure I like that too much.
Living in the city sounds neat since you can walk to every where, but not sure if I'd like the hustle and bustle of it all.

City living, hands down! DH and I both grew up in the suburbs and I have zero interest in living there again!

We moved to the country a few years ago and I'd never go back! I loooooooooooooove it! It's so peaceful and quiet! We're only 5-10 minutes from town where we can go to a mom & pop's store if we need anything (from bread to a washer lol!).
I lived in Chicago for 4 months back in the day and I couldn't wait to move back "home". I hated it!!
I totally love where I live! Even if my commute to work is 70 minutes... but I love my job as well! So it all works out!

@Alivoo01: Haha, yeah we came from living in cities where we didn’t know any of our neighbors and they didn’t know us, so I think that's just what I'm used to.
Now where we live there is an email listserve for our (small) community and people email each other back and forth all the time, apparently one family puts out a lighted tiki torch in the summer when everyone else can come over for drinks, people have commented “boy you get a lot of deliveries!” (amazon), we have woods abutting our back yard and the neighbors snowmobile up through there (so in our yard) without asking first, one neighbor has a pool and said everyone uses it whenever they want without asking permission first, etc. It’s not a bad thing; just will get some getting used to!

Country! Our house now is in the mix of a country suburb, if that is allowed? Huge yards, lots of privacy, fields on either side of us. It's great.

Country all the way. I like living within a reasonable distance to the city though. I have lived in the city before and I hated it. I can appreciate the city, but I love having a chunk of land and the peace and quiet. Room for children to run around freely in our large yard and for animals you wouldnt have in the city.

Hate city living....with a passion. I would much rather live in the suburbs, or country!
pomegranate / 3244 posts
Definitely not the suburbs, but I wouldn't mind living in a small town (so country I guess?). But I do love the walkability and public transport options available in cities! I think ideal for me would be a great neighborhood in a smaller city.

I would absolutely LOVE to be able to live back in the country, we would have no careers though. So we live in the city!

Burbs or country, but I like proximity to a major city for conveniences like airport, sports, eating, and shopping (in that order).
I don't mind our Phoenix burbs all that much, it just takes forever to get out of the urban sprawl! I miss living in the country, but would be happy on the outskirts of a moderate sized town.
