Just bought it. I lost one of my closest friends almost 2 years ago. And even though it's way better now I still get hung up on it time to time. Boo it's so hard. There are no guarantees.

Thanks for sharing. I had a pretty intense best friendship with someone from ages 17-22, and it ended very abruptly. I still consider it the hardest "break-up"/relationship ending I've ever dealt with. I will definitely read this.

This is something I've been struggleing with for years. My ex best friend, as in the girl I grew up with my entire life, is a hard core alchoholic and drug addict now. We are 2 weeks apart in age and even lived together at one point as children. If there is such a thing as best friend soul mates she was it. With that being said my mother is an alchoholic and I have exacly 0 room in my life for anybody with addiction issues ever again. When I realized that she was in no way ready to accept help I dropped all communication. Me and her mom are super close so I get updates on how she's doing, and it's really bad, honestly I'm just waiting for the middle of the
Night phone call. I think about her constantly, and I know where she is. I honestly sometimes think about going there and dragging her out by her hair if I have to, but I've already learned the life lesson that people who don't want help won't help themselves. I will say it's been about 4 years now that she's gone off the deep end, and time does heal to an extent, but knowing that phone call is probably coming one day makes it harder than it should be I think.
