I'm sure there have been several posts along these lines but I can't seem to search on my iPhone. My daughter is 6 days old and she sleeps a lot. More than my son ever did. I have to wake her to feed her and she is so limp when she is sleep that it scares me. She is so floppy I can put in in Anne feeds style poses with perfect ease. I know this can be normal but I want to make sure and to hear other stories just in case. She has no fever, she has alert times when she opens eyes and does tummy time, she is having a lot of poop and owe diapers and will usually wake for a short feed. She cries very minimally but she does cry. Should I be concerned?

She sounds exactly like my DD! My daughter was born at 37+2, so on the earlier side and was the sleepiest newborn, it was really difficult to wake her up to eat and then she would nurse for like 2 minutes and fall back asleep again. She also rarely cried. Her sleepy newborn phase lasted about a month. She was the complete opposite of DS who was extremely alert from day 1 and seemed like he never slept and was very fussy. I was worried just like you, but if everything else seems ok, enjoy it!

I had a super sleepy daughter and was so worried too. Everyone told me they'd never seen such a sleepy baby. I think it lasted about a month. Although she had her days and nights mixed up for a long time and would be more awake from 11pm. But during the day it was so hard to even wake her up to eat. I tried taking off her clothes, rubbing her back, etc. but she'd just keep sleeping. At 3 weeks we took her for newborn photos and we smooshed her into all kinds of buckets and baskets and she just slept. Now she's 10 months old and doesn't want to take naps or stay still! I think if your doctor's not worried and she's gaining weight, it sounds pretty normal to me.

C was like that early on too. She was 2 weeks early, and right when she hit 2 weeks old she "woke up"
I had so much trouble waking her to eat (and remember, I thought I had to at that point because of the MCADD thing!). Totally normal! Get some cute newborn posed pictures

This is all so reassuring thank you! I will just try to enjoy it whilst it lasts. I dread things like colic and etc sneaking up on me but wanted to make sure this was healthy too.

Definitely ask your doc if you are concerned! But it sounds likely within the range of normal. My DD2 was also super-sleepy, way more than DD1 (especially during the day). Plus I was worried about GBS since I had her so quickly that we didn't get any antibiotics. She was fine -- just a sleepyhead! After the first week or two, I got used to her normal and enjoyed it
Even now (4 months), she still has pretty high sleep needs.

My LO was like that too (she was a c section baby at 38+5) and would breastfeed for 2 minutes and fall asleep - we had to strip her down and blow in her face and on the back of her neck to get her to eat!

Yeeep. I remember DD could barely wake up enough to eat and falls asleep at the boobs and I was so worried that she wasn't eating enough! Funny now she never seems to sleep... lol.

If she's having poop and wet diapers, i wouldn't be concerned. You can always get her glucose levels checked if you are still worried.

My DD was really sleepy for the first 2 weeks and then she found her voice

Sounds like my son the first couple of weeks. We had to strip him down to his diaper so he would wake up enough to feed.

@Freckles: For a moment, I was like hey! This isn't so bad! And then she grew out of the sleep all the time, anywhere and way...!
