We are about to take our LO swimming for the first time next week! He is almost 8 months old and I am clueless about what he needs. We have a bathing suit, a rash guard top, and obviously lots of sunblock.
Should we be using some kind of floatation device, or can he just come in the pool in my arms? I am only now realize just how uneducated I am about this!

I would also get some swim diapers, the regular ones can fill with water and burst in the pool... which is messy. Other than that, I don't think you need a flotation device. I just took E swimming for the first time last weekend and just held him in my arms. I liked that I could hold him out then and let him kick his legs and move around.

i have gone swimming in a pool a few times with LO (7.5 months). all i really do is load her up with sunscreen and make sure she has a sun hat on and then i just kind of hold her the whole time. she loves kicking her legs and facing outwards, but i also put her on her belly as well which she likes. they do sell these things for babies to go in the water and we bought one, but LO just likes being free
