T has meningitis and we are headed to the hospital.

@PinkElephant: thank you so much for sharing your story!! I'm sorry you went through this too. My personal opinion is that it's not meningitis, just a bad virus too. After a good dose of Tylenol and getting his fever down, his soft spot isn't bugling anymore. One of the nurses mentioned that it could have just been because of the fever and not meningitis. But we still have to wait on test results

They're doing an MRI of his head at 12:30. Can't nurse him until then though because they're putting him to sleep for it. Sucks. Nursing was really the only thing we could do to calm him. Holding him scares him. I understand though. We'll just have to deal.

I was thinking of you both all night! I'm glad to hear things seem to be going well and he looks to be improving.

I can't imagine how hard it must be to watch him be in pain and not be able to comfort him. Hopefully it will be over soon!

@Danizaur: I'm so glad his fever went down. Praying so hard for your little family! Do they have a Child Life Specialist on duty? They know techniques to calm and distract T. We have them where I work and they are godsends.

Ugh. I had fed him right before they came in to tell us about the MRI. So they said they would just push it back an hour. Now they are saying they don't have any room on the schedule afterwards for the anesthesiologist to put him to sleep. So they're going to wait until he falls asleep on his own, put him in a blanket thing to keep him still, and do the MRI while he's asleep. I don't see that working AT ALL. He's a light sleeper.

@Danizaur: I'm so sorry. Try to remember that this may be the worst few days of your life but he will never remember. But I know that's so hard when your baby is sad

@Danizaur: how old is he? If he'll take a paci that blanket thing might work, it's like a super swaddle and the MRI is loud with white noise and dark. That said, that method didn't work for DS2 and they did eventually sedate him.

@Danizaur: also, ask if he can have sweet-ease, it's basically sugar water they dip the paci in, it calms them down a lot.

@beaker: They used that for his other procedures and it helped, but I told them I would rather wait for an opportunity to put him to sleep later and try it. I don't know about him being scared and awake for 35 minutes. It sounded just too awful to me to risk him waking up and being scared again.

Personally I don't feel like it would work for T. White noise and being swaddled isn't enough to get him to sleep. It's actually counter productive if he's not sleepy enough. Which with all the commotion he's really on edge and I highly doubt he would stay asleep.

Oh my how scary!! I really hope it turns out just to be a virus, hang in there momma, you're doing an awesome job!

  30. Mrs. Tiger

@Danizaur: if he's awake they won't even do it since he'll be moving too much, worst case is he's up and upset and they give up and hand him back to you.

I'm so sorry. I know this is all scary.

@Danizaur: Xander's a really light sleeper too, so there's no way he'd just sleep through an MRI. I've heard those things are LOUD. I think you're definitely wise to wait until they can actually put him under for it!

@danizaur: you're very welcome. Are they hydrating him with any sort of iv fluids? My daughter developed a bit of diarrhea from the antibiotics, and the iv (essentially sugar water) helped her lethargic state immensely. Continuing to think of you - stay strong!

Glad to hear that baby T is feeling better today. Nonetheless, what a scary position to be in. You're being so strong for your little one. Hope you're all able to get some rest soon and get out of that hospital. So glad you're in good hands though!

So glad that it isn’t meningitis; and that they are taking proactive steps to determine what exactly is going on with T!

I can’t believe they are going to try to give him an MRI when she is asleep. MRI machines are not exactly super quiet - - I don’t know…just seems weird to me that they would expect a baby/toddler/kid to “stay asleep” while all of that is going on around them. Of course, on the other hand, I wouldn't want my LO to have to be put to sleep for a procedure either. I hope it works, and they get to the bottom of what's going on!

I hope everything works out. MRIs are weird things...I'd be surprised if he slept through it! I hope he does, though, so that he's sooner to feeling better and going home!
