So my wonderful hard working husband managed to win a contest at work - the prize is a week in Vegas for both of us! I think we will be busy with lot's of pre-planned activities and meals, but I'd still like to hear from bees who have been there!

Vegas has great shows, food, shopping! The weather is perfect to lay out at the pool! We've seen several cirque shows, i'm going to see britney in may! Clubbing was fun for my bach party, but def didnt go when it was just dh and i! We've never done grand canyon but hear it's an experience since you'll have enough time!

Jealous! We saw lots of shows and ate so much good food. My favorite was a sushi place where we got to sit outside and watch the water show.

@mrs. bird: ohmygosh, really??? too funny! We are going April 28- May 2. DH will get a packet with the planned activities soon. There will be a bunch of other work people and spouses from other regions. If we are there at the same time we must meet up! For a non-drink! lol

A week in Vegas is a long time. Nothing good usually happens after three days. But actually... if you aren't drinking or gambling you should be in the clear. Lay by the most amazing pool you can get into. The Four Seasons is my favorite non-gaming hotel. The Cosmo Hotel Chandelier Bar is so cool. At least go for a Shirley Temple. Splurge on a meal at Nobu. The seabass with miso will nearly cause your body to melt. Have your husband play a round or four of golf. And get out of the city for a bit, if you can. Have fun, lady!

@Happygal: Barry Manilow!!!! awesome I am really down for ANYTHING! We have NEVER taken a trip together that wasn't with or to visit family. We never even had a honeymoon! And even if we did want to travel we wouldn't be able to afford it! So the thought of going on a trip like this is crazy and amazing!

@MrsMcD: I LOL'd at your first two sentences. I think we are staying in the Cosmopolitan hotel! That's the only detail I know so far. I would take ANY pool! I haven't laid by a pool in YEARS! Golf is a good idea!

Oh man a week in Vegas sounds horrific -- but that's probably because I drink and gamble and usually get into trouble after about 36 hours in Vegas 
But if I weren't drinking or gambling I'd totally take advantage of all the fabulous restaurants and shows there! And definitely lounging by the pool or doing a spa day (hubby can always golf too).
Oh and I've heard the Cosmopolitan Hotel is fabulous, so that's a great start for you!

@NorCalWayfarer: I'm so glad I'm not the only who feels that way about Vegas! Maybe its a California girl thing. But I seriously usually lose my wallet or a shoe after 36 hours. Have you ever done the whole, "Let's stay one more night!" and then all hell breaks loose? But its all nothing that a spa day can't fix!

@MrsMcD: Hahah maybe it is a California girl weekend trip thing -- granted I've only gone for spring break (law school) and bachelorette parties so no wonder it tends to get wildly out of hand! 
Now that I'm 30 I have committed to a strict one night only rule for Vegas -- first night is always fun, 2nd (or 3rd) night is when it starts to get ugly...
@cmomma17: And I would totally go see the Britney show if I were you. I've been wanting to take a trip out there just to see it And my friend lives out there and she goes to the most amazing concerts so I'd check and see who is playing when you are there.

We've been twice (for our wedding and first anniversary) and never went to the Grand Canyon, it's further than you think and the helicopter tours were really expensive.
If you will have a car, I recommend heading to Red Rock Canyon and Hoover Dam for some good off the strip sightseeing.
We've seen a couple of Cirque shows and enjoyed. We also enjoyed Terry Fator. Make sure to bring comfy shoes for walking. Everything on the strip is further than you would think or it looks.

@cmomma17: If you are up for venturing off of the strip, The Neon Museum and The Mob Museum are notable. Also, as a Nevada resident and frequent Vegas visitor, no trip is complete without dropping by the soda fountain on the second floor of the Coke store and a stop at Serendipity 3 for some frozen hot chocolate. The weather should be great for your trip! :0)

I agree that a week is a LOT for Vegas, so definitely take it slow! There is tons of good food all around, and the hotels are fun to look at. I like starting at one end of the strip and wandering in and out of hotels to check out the sites until I'm tired. There is a monorail for at least some of the strip now too.

Take a hike in Red Rock, eat eat eat, see a Cirque show (I've always wanted to see Zumanity), and enjoy the pool!

Fuuuun! I love Vegas! Even if you don't gamble/drink, there's tons to do- lots of awesome food (all the buffets), shows, lying by the pool, and just checking out all the hotels!

We are supposed to get a packet of info in the next week outlining all the activities they have planned for us. A few things will be business related (awards banquet, etc.) but I'm excited to see what else is in store (and free!)

Rent a car for at least a day or two! We don't drink very much or gamble very much either, and we tend to get a little bored in vegas after a few days since we don't want to spend a ton doing shows every day. I'd recommend driving out to red rock canyon, hoover dam, and even the grand canyon if you haven't seen it (this is sort of an all day trip though bc it is a few hours away).

We found that each one of the hotels had a family friendly attraction - mandalay bay has a aquarium, NY NY has the rollercoaster, MGM has the Lions, we had a lot of fun exploring the over the topness of each casino.
MGM has an awesome sunday brunch buffet
Vegas is like disney for adults - a lot of walking and everything cost more money than you think it would

@cmomma17: Go explore and walk through the different casinos, they all have something cool about them. See the water show (day and night), the gardens, the window shopping, ect.

We just got back from Vegas. We don't drink, and aren't much into gambling. Things to enjoy:
Great people watching- just walking up and down the strip is great
Ceasar's buffet- AWESOME!
Paris buffet
Shows! You can get tickets at Tix4Tonight which has a bunch of locations along the strip. La Reve was our favorite.
Laying by the pool and hot tubbing
Best pool/lounge- the Golden Nugget. It has a huge saltwater fish tank in the middle of it, and then a water slide that goes through the middle of it. AMAZING!!!!
Old Vegas- lots of amazingly talented people doing their art. Check out the spray paint art.
Things that were disappointing:
Flamingo Buffet
Cirque de Soleil Love- I love the Beatles, but was very disappointed by the lack of acrobatics/aerials.

@cmomma17: I'm going to be no help, but I stayed in the Cosmopolitan for a conference. It is incredibly fancy and new. My room had a Japanese soaking tub and an amazing shower. Bring two forms of birth control, gurl.

I have gone to Vegas many times and am taking my lo in March with the rest of our extended family. I definitely recommend a restaurant called Delmonico's (by Emeril)!

Breakfast buffet at the Wynn!!
We also toured the Hoover dam, saw gold & silver pawn, and saw the blue man group. Oh! And the stratosphere! The food is super expensive, but they have a roller coaster off the top that was just amazingly cool.

Rent a car. Super cheap and you'll spend more on cab fare than you will on a rental for a week. Valet is free at every hotel but we always tip.
