@Katrocap: luckily DH's off on Mondays and Tuesdays so he will be with LO then. He also goes into work in the afternoons so a family friend will watch her W, Th, F for a couple of hours.
@rahlyrah: I'm trying to look at it as this is good for me and her. I need some time out of the house so I don't go stir crazy

@swedishfish: ah, okay....I live on the other side of Manhattan
I figured it was somewhere in this area with that calendar. No maternity leave in NY?

@Anagram: I can take unpaid leave for up to two years but we can't afford it. I'm grateful I had the summer with LO because it's more time I would've had than if I gave birth during the school year. What do you get for leave?

@808love: How do you like year round? About 1/3 of the schools in my district are going to a year round schedule next year. Mine isn't one of them, but I'm wondering if they may change more schools to year round after that. I feel like I might like some aspects of it.

I go back on Friday! Kids don't come back until the 26th so I am glad I get to ease into it. I have been trying to resist the urge to go into mega planning mode and just enjoy my last few days off while they last. I feel so lucky to get this break every year, I will try to remember the feeling in February!!!

@mrs. 64: I've been in the year round system ever since I started teaching 15+ years. I prefer and enjoy it. The kids and I get a break to regroup, reflect (and escape) at the end of every quarter. A few weeks off every break with over a month in the winter is really nice to keep things fresh. Personally, I think I would tend to get bored and/or 'forget everything' with longer traditional breaks. Plus you can travel off peak rates, depending on your schedule.

Meetings start the 15th, and the kids come back the 21st. It is weird to know that I will only be there until halloweenish before I go on leave!

@swedishfish: also unpaid, sadly. If I were tenured, I could have up to 2 years unpaid, but we just moved her last year, so I'm taking the 12 weeks FMLA, which my district doesn't start until the first day for teachers. So I go back the week before Thanksgiving.

@Anagram: oh wow, enjoy your time with your LO and going back right before Thanksgiving is good...just a little time at work and then a short break!
