I have a shower to go to for a teen mom. The baby's father is currently in jail and she will be living with her grandparents in a very very tiny home. I need some gift ideas. I would like to get her something useful, yet not too big or something she'll have to store for a long time. I really don't have much that I can spend on this so I was hoping for the $25 range. Does anyone have any ideas?? Her registry is nearly all baby clothes and while I know those are a necessity, I'm thinking there are other things she'll need more than cute dresses....

What about a Rock and Play or a foldable bouncy chair? Something that can be used immediately and for a long time and that can be folded up when not in use?
Eta: as for price, my local baby consignment store always has rnps and bouncy chairs, new in the box for around $25-$30.

Diapers and wipes. She may think that's boring but reality will hit real fast when she realizes how many diapers babies go through

Or even a large box of diapers (from say, Sam's club or somewhere) I know that's not as exciting for a younger mom but will be very useful. -

I also think a Rock and play would be a great gift. It's my go to gift because I've found it so useful. If you could find one at a consignment it would probably fit into your price range, or could you go in on a gift with someone else who's going to get a new one?

Definitely the rock n play. It's compact and so useful.
I also like the idea of diapers! We were thrilled to get diapers as a gift. I especially liked the diapers in larger sizes -- C grew out of newborn so fast & it was great having a larger size already ion hand.

diapers and a jumbo sized box of condoms? kidding! really though, diapers are always useful. is she getting hand me downs from someone? like for a bouncer, carseat, crib/PNP, stroller, or carrier? because those are all really useful and if she's not getting them as hand me downs, maybe you could go in on a carseat and frame stroller or PNP with a couple people, or get an inexpensive bouncer. or RNP on your own

I would definitely do size 1 of diapers. My guess is she will get enough diapers at the hospital to cover newborn.

I think diapers will be very helpful. What brand is usually best for a girl (I cloth diaper and have a boy)?? Also what are y'alls thoughts on a nose frida?? I love mine, but my mom thinks it will gross her out too much. I think if you have a sick baby you'll do anything to help them.

@Beyond2: there are charities that will provide girls with some of that, so i wonder if that's why she didn't register for it or maybe she's asking for the stuff she wants (and the stuff her friends will buy because it's fun to pick out baby clothes) and banking on her family getting all the stuff she needs or maybe the poor girl has no idea what she needs. i wouldn't do a nose frida though, you'd be hard pressed to find a teenager that could keep a straight face reading about one.

I would do a small gift basket of some little items like burp cloths, nice baby lotion and wash, thermometer, nail clippers/scissors, etc. Maybe include a gift card to a local consignment shop, or even a grocery store.
What about a carrier/wrap? Those are under $25 at consignment shops/eBay and there are deals online.
I also think diapers and wipes would be a great gift. Maybe not glamorous, but she'll find out pretty quick how $$$ everything is, especially with no support from baby-daddy.

@Beyond2: What about some of the essential things that she might need in the middle of the night, like Tylenol, gas drops/gripe water, teething tablets, diaper cream, baby lotion, etc.

@Beyond2: If you have a Costco membership, those are good. Target brand are good, as well and not as expensive as Pampers and Huggies. I stay away from Walmart brand only because M had a reaction to those.

Swaddleme/Swaddle pod/woombie. I also thought the RNP or stocking up on diapers were great suggestions.

So many great ideas! Not sure how close you are to her (to explain a NoseFrida or things like that), but another bee posted that TJMaxx is selling NuRoo skin-to-skin shirts for $28 bucks or so. Could be really useful to help carry babe around and promote their bond.
I feel like a lot of teen moms don't get some of the support and information they really need (most moms don't think of this this stuff until they research it, and teens are definitely in a different place). Can you also give her some "coupons" for late night phone calls, a day of helping her pack up the newborn clothes and get out the 3-6 clothes, etc? A cheap way to let her know you can be a resource.

@indi: that's a really good idea. We're not very close. Distant cousins who I've honestly talked to maybe twice? I do have a bit of experience under my belt and my second baby will only be 4 months younger than hers. I would love to be there for her, I really feel like she will need someone. I think back to the newborn days with my son and can't imagine doing them alone and so young
