Ours is coming up on Tuesday.
What was your favorite part? Anything surprise you? Will this one last longer than my previous scans that were all of 45 seconds long?

@highwire: I don't know since I haven't had mine yet but I can't believe your scans were so quick! My 12 week one was almost half an hour. And the one I had to have at 16 weeks was about the same. At 16 weeks she took pictures of every limb, all angles of the head, and each chamber of the heart as well as the other organs that had developed. I'm guesssing the anatomy scan will be similar?

Exciting!!!!! Ours didn't last long either. The tech will check your baby's body parts then check gender! I think ours lasted 5-7 mins last time. Lo had her legs crossed so it took the tech a bit to get a good look down there

It does take longer than a regular ultrasound because they measure most of the bones, and check the babies internal organs but it all depends on how well your baby cooperates with them. Mine took a while and my baby wouldnt turn over for them to check her back and kidneys so I had to go back again in two weeks to complete my anatomy scan

Ours was prob 30-40 min! The tech checked every single body part and got pictures and walked us through it. She even showed us the gender first because we were so excited lol

Ours was about 10-15 minutes. The tech looked at the heart, lungs, other body parts, hands, feet, took pics for us, had us turn away when she looked "downstairs" because we're team green. Then a dr. came in and looked at everything and gave us the all clear.

It lasted about 20 minutes - it was wonderful. My favorite part was all of it . . . and I am constantly surprised at how happy butterbean makes me. Gives me hope that I won't turn into Oscar the Grouch!

I think it depends on the tech. Some are friendlier and nicer and will spend more time. Some just want to get you outta there. Be sure to speak up and ask for lots of pictures. Sometimes they're stingy. I mentioned once that we hadn't gotten a lot of pictures in the past and she printed out like 20 of them!!!

I had two, one at 16 weeks and one at 20 weeks. They each took about 35 minutes. My fave part was when they switched to 3d and 4d and we go to see his face and features! And of course, finding out gender

We have ours scheduled for this afternoon and I am so excited! I am also not 100% what to expect but looking forward to making sure that everything is healthy and looking good. We are not interested in finding out the gender and I am so nervous that I will forget to say something to the tech/dr. but hoping we don't see anything while we avert our eyes!

ours was around 30 minutes both times! it was awesome! we got to see every little part. the ultrasound tech would explain what we were seeing - hands, heart, feet, etc. we got lots of pics and i had a super nice tech both times!

Ours was around 30-40 minutes, baby girl is a MOVER! haha they had a hard time getting accurate measurements because she was moving and switching positions so much. Our little wiggle worm.
Our tech was amazing and she would explain everything she was doing and what we were looking at. She would point and say here is her kidney and her bladder so you can see it is full which means it's functioning correctly, ect. It was awesome that she explained why she knew things were working! The only thing that I would change is when she announced gender it was random, like here's the heart and oh we have a girl! Haha she was moving so much I think she was scared she wouldn't get a clear shot, so she was just excited that she cooperated enough to get the "money" shot! She did ask us at the beginning if we wanted to know gender or not.

I would say that both of mine were around 30 minutes. Both LOs were not cooperative, DD kept flipping over when the tech was trying to measure appendages and this LO just wouldn't lay still to get the measurements. If you are team green be sure to tell them at the start because both of the techs we had told us to close our eyes when she put the wand down because she couldn't tell what would appear on the screen. Some other things they do aside from measuring appendages is heart rate and cord blood flow. Our hospital has a policy that the techs can't tell you if what they are seeing is normal or not but they can at least tell you what it is they are looking at. Ask for pictures but the number may be influenced by how cooperative LO is being. With my current pregnancy we got one picture of a foot, one of some fingers and one of the face. With DD we got several of her profile and I think a foot (don't recall).

Mine lasted about 20 minutes. She checked all the organs and took measurements of the bones. She checked the umbilical cord as well. My tech was pretty friendly. She couldn't tell us if anything was wrong, but she did explain what parts she was looking at. Baby was moving around a lot so they didn't get great shots of some things like the spine.

Mine was almost an hour but he was having problems getting some of the measurements. LO had his head low in my pelvis and we probably spent 20 minutes trying to get him to move. At one point he had the head of the table I was on so low I felt like I was going to fall on my head!

mine was 2.5 hours long lol. Liv was a movin and kicking and rolling, then fell asleep in the most inconvenient position ever, so they had trouble getting measurements. They didnt even get them all done at that appt, I had to go in a few days later for a follow-up and even that one was 35 mins. They couldnt tell me her gender until like 1.5 hours in.
They take a lot of measurements - head, abdomen, legs, heart, brain, other organs, etc. I asked her to explain everything she was doing. It was fascinating.

Mine was probably around 30 minutes. We had a great tech who would walk us through every single thing she was looking at and explain what she saw. She measured all of the organs, the cord, checked to make sure there were 10 fingers/10 toes, checked for cleft lip, head size, basically everything! And of course the gender! Towards the end of the scan, she said the baby was in perfect position for a 3d/4d scan so she did one for us and gave us pics. The anatomy scan is definitely my favorite u/s because you get to see your baby for such a long time!

@jessiejo17: I thought that was so cool, too! she said her belly was full which meant she could swallow, and that her bladder was full which meant "at least" one kidney was working. I was amazed!

Mine was about 30 mins too. We had a good tech who explained every single thing she was looking at and for. So all the body parts like right and left foot, legs, hands, arms, the heart's 4 chambers ans the other organs. She did a close up of the nose and mouth which I guess was to check for a cleft palate and the baby was drinking at the time, it was so cute to see her little mouth open and close! And she saved the gender for the very end and then she took a close up shot and explained what she saw and pointed out the three white lines. It was so great! Have fun and don't be afraid to ask questions!

@JessLC: Mine sounded exactly like yours! Our tech saved the gender for the very end and explained the 3 lines. I said "Are you SURE it's a girl?" and she said "I've never been wrong in 15 years". Of course the next u/s we had, I asked her again if she was sure. hahahaha. With a boy, it's so obvious (nub!) but with a girl, it's just 3 lines so how do you know FOR SURE? I'm not skeptical anymore though.

Ooh, exciting! Loved the anatomy scan!
Ours was about 40 minutes and it was so great watching the baby for that long !! Lots of pics - and we switched to 4D for a bit also... We had the sex sealed in an envelope (including a pic) and devised a really fun way to find out!

ours was also about 30-40 mins. i just totally loved seeing my baby on the screen for that long. the only thing that sucked is that the place where we went doesn't allow anyone else in the room while they do the exam, so poor DH had to wait in the hall for most of it. he was allowed to come in at the end and got to see the baby for about 5 minutes. i asked that they don't tell me the gender until DH was in the room, so the whole time too i was getting all hyped up to find out!

@banana: haha, yes! i called my mom and i told her, and she was like, maybe they're wrong. so i second guessed the tech and i googled "boy ultrasounds" and they definitely look much different!

had ours this past Monday. it was about 30 min!
LO had his back to us so the tech took a few shots that she needed, poked at him a lil bit, and then he was moving around, kicking me, sucking his thumb. We got to see so many different angles/shots. LOVED every second of it.
They also gave us a dvd of 4 pics and 4 video clips; so I watch it when I'm bored throughout my day
