We moved and are still figuring out where things are going to go. In the meantime, we have two leaning bookcases in the family room that haven't been anchored to the walls in any way. Is there any kind of temporary solution, like Command hooks? DH is reluctant to put the wall anchors in until we decide exactly how we will leave the room, but I'm anxious having a baby and toddler in here until we secure them (and the flat screen TV but that's another story).

I'm sure it's not the "recommended" solution, but 3M makes Velcro picture hanging strips. If you can it it right up against the wall that might help.

I'd put the bookcases somewhere else until you decide where they're going to go.
The only way to secure it to the wall is to anchor it to the studs. Any adhesive that would be strong enough to withstand the weight of a toddler would do more damage than the anchors would. -
@oliviaoblivia: full disclosure, that's what I said. Or just decide where they go for now and patch the holes if we change our minds. But DH of course thinks there must be another way.

Anchor them where they are now. Patching and painting is a not a big deal and safety trumps everything else.

Agree with others - just anchor them and deal with it. I had your husband's same thought and then I was like, "Silly hummusgirl! If something terrible happens to your kid you're going to wish you hadn't postponed because you didn't want to put some stupid holes in the wall!!"

@Foodnerd81: Was worth a try! I also looked at it as an investment in my own mental health and the kids' independence. I had so much anxiety about my LO playing by himself around unsecured furniture that I was either anxious or hovering. Plus I realized that it may take YEARS for us to figure out exactly what furniture we want to ultimately buy so best to just start living with what we've got and be able to take our time figuring things out.
