I was at the park this weekend and saw 8 moms wearing tennis skirts - I guess they could possibly all play tennis but wondering if its the summer version of a yoga pant?
Do you see moms wearing these??

Haha. I always thought of yoga pants as the new tennis skirt. Maybe the trend is cycling again!

Could it have been that they were skorts from Athleta?
They're all I wear in the summer. Skirts are just not an option on the playground with my son.

hm, I haven't seen any around here. Definitely lots of yoga pants but it is getting really hot. I'll have to pay more attention..
I definitely just opt for shorts when it gets hot!

I see Moms in them all the time, but there is a tennis park near us, so not sure if they were playing or not.

Oh lord I hope not. Yoga pants are flattering on most people and tennis skirts are certainly not!!

Is this like the pleated tennis skirt of the 90's? I haven't seen it!

I haven't noticed this BUT I love that skirts are an option for running, working out, etc. so maybe they are runners? I prefer skirts to shorts a million percent.

Confession: I wear running skirts. BUT its because traditional running shorts chafe my thighs when I run, and running skirts have built in compression shorts that don't rub my BFF thighs. haha.

@grizz: But you wear them to run - BIG difference than, say, a random park trip/grocery store run!

Are they short, like this:

Or longer, like this, is this out too?:

I love my Lulu running skirt!! I can see why moms like it. It's a flattering choice! But I would just prefer shorts.

I saw a mom running in them last week but haven't seen them at the park. I do think they're cute though.

Can you post a (stock) pic?
Is this a running skirt? A tennis skirt has pleats. I don't see the problem... personally I don't wear shorts, never will. I love skirts!

@grizz: I wear running skirts too. It's much more comfortable and I can escape the chub rub. I ran a half-marathon in traditional shorts once and from mile 9 on I was in a tremendous amount of pain.

Oh my, I haven't seen that much and I usually assume they are legitimately coming from playing tennis.

@looch: I have and love the wherever skort, though the length falls shorter on me. It is in fact my summer go to for chasing a toddler around. I stopped wearing shorts a long time ago. I also run in running skirts though.

I have many tennis skirts and skorts of different styles and lengths. I don't understand the objection to them. Skorts are practical, they generally create a nicer line than shorts, and they CYA, unlike yoga pants.

@Thenetexan: I have the whatever skort as well, it hits me right above the knees. I like it so much I am ordering a second one this summer.
I haven't seen anyone around town in sporty looking skirts, but I will try to pay attention, genuinely curious!

@Mamaof2: I have a golf skirt/skort that looks like that. I only wear it to play golf though....Maybe I should be wearing it more often

I haven't really seen it, but it hasn't been hot enough around here anyway. But really, I think that looks more flattering than many shorts. If your thighs are close together, a lot of shorts start riding up and it looks terrible, even if you are reasonably thin. This thread is making me think I need to get one!
I also have a running skirt, but have only ever worn it actually running. Which means I haven't worn it in like 3 years.

@grizz: have you seen the running shorts w/the compression undies instead of traditional?? I LOVE them! I'll take a pic of my zexy ass tonight. Pretty sure my fave ones are walmart brand. Don't judge.

A woman wore a short skirt like that to the barre class I took the other day. We're swinging our legs all around, doing squats and lunges.....it was distracting!

I haven't noticed it in my area, but I have a couple skirts like that I wear for golf. I think they're a little too sporty for me to wear them out, but they are comfortable!

I hope not! Because that is not a look I can pull off...not that I would really want to, it's not my style anyways.

God, I hope not. At least yoga pants make your ass look great....

I was totally one of those today. But it was 85 degrees - too hot for yoga pants or jeans
grapefruit / 4136 posts
@grizz: okay here are crappy cell phone pictures. I legit got these from Walmart. They are by far my favorite shorts to run in. The bike short part isn't super tight at the bottom so they do ride up your thigh as you run but I don't find it uncomfortable. Plus, they were cheap!
