If, prior to your baby shower, you had people buying you gifts that needed to be ordered, did you send the thank you card (a) once you became aware the gift was ordered for you, or (b) after the gift is delivered to your house?

I wrote them as I knew they'd been ordered and then mailed when received.

We had an out of state shower but got a few gifts before we traveled home for the shower. I wrote everything down and planned to write thank you notes after compiling the gifts I got at the shower.
Then a week after I returned home from the shower, I was put on hospital bed rest. Yeah, I was a bit delayed in thank you etiquette.
I sent almost all of my thank you notes out before the babies came, I think. I was on 6 weeks of hospital rest so I had some time.
Since I was traveling home (flew across the country) for the shower, I was not able to get thank you cards out before my trip. Traveling while pregnant and packing took a lot out of me, but I think my guests understood and were so happy to see me.

If it was clear the gift was being shipped directly to me, I might write the note ahead of time (but send it out after the shower) in order to reduce the number of notes I'd need to write after the shower! But if it was purchased in-store to bring to the shower I would NOT write notes ahead because the giver may include other personal items you'd want to comment on in your note.

I was with the people as the items were being ordered and I know they will be coming to my house. Of course I profusely thanked each person as the items were being ordered but I think, based on all your thoughts, I will send a thank you card when I receive the items as an acknowledgement that the items have, in fact, been received. Thank you again girls! I feel so lame that I couldn't make this decision myself.
