So I don't have two kids, yet, but my experiences from being the second child are complete opposite! My brother was a handful, from the time he was born until today, and I am pretty laid back. My mom and dad always said I was the "perfect baby." And I really never got into trouble growing up.

Maybe you just get the opposite of what you got the first time just to keep you on your toes.

I'm one of two and my younger brother was a terror. My parents always joked that if they'd had him first they probably would not have had me!

@Ree723: all three of them are mischievous, funny and full of love! And from stories I've heard they were all the biggest handful growing up. We definitely foresee DD2 being a way bigger handful than DD1. She already is and DD1 is no timid princess either. Yay us for the teen years.

I voted about the same but they are really different (maybe because they are girl/boy).

She was really difficult in terms of poor sleep habits and bad attitude. Would never play by herself.

He is more physical and does have tantrums. He is later to speak so communication is a bit of a challenge too but is a much easier child in general.

@LuLu Mom: haha this is DD2. Sometimes I do my darnedest not to smile, and fail.
I feel bad for DH because he's surrounded by al females! Even our dog is a female!

So far, T is super easy and chill. But I see mischief brewing

LO #1 being our first was a challenge from colic to our inexperience with all things kids. He's 3.5 years old and giving us a huge run for our money with attitude and lack of sleep these days because bedtime is the worst.

LO #2 is way more laid back than LO #1. We did the Harvey Karp techniques right away, so sleep wasn't too big of a deal. He still had wake ups, but generally slept better than his brother did. He watches his brother like he's an alien. LO #2's a happy little guy full of smiles, loves solids, etc. He's not rolling like his brother was at this age. It's the big thing that concerns me. Otherwise, he's awesome.

Oh my goodness, this is 100% true for us. We joke that DD is our feral child. She's is stubborn, spirited, sassy, but can be so affectionate and loving. She's definitely the boss of her big and little brothers

Let's put it this way....I've baby say a ton, worked in a daycare. LO1 was one of the highest energy, most spirited kids I had ever met. A good kid, but high energy. We used to hang out with other parents and must marvel that they do stuff like lay down during diaper changes. He didn't sleep through the night till he was 15 mo. He was always running, always jumping, always loud!

LO2 makes him look quiet and laid back! And a good sleeper. LO2 is a little more cuddly - lo1 would've never just sat on my lap or laid his head on my chest (I literally remember him doing it once and I was shocked.) But Lo2 makes up for his cuddles by being that much more wild. I can't count the number of times he tried to jump out of my arms and I had to catch him mid air! And at 19mo, he still doesn't sttn.

My son was the worst newborn and a total handful now. If DS2 due is May is worse I might die.

I only have one LO so far but in my family growing up, I was the oldest child and I was the baby from hell that almost made my parents not have anymore children. My sister who was LO #2 was an angel baby, so easy!

DD1 was generally what I would call an easy baby and is a pretty calm preschooler, content to play pretend, read books, etc. DD2 is the opposite...never sits still, always finding trouble, terrible sleeper, etc. So that article is definitely true for us!

Lo2 was a MUCH more challenging infant. But now at 4.5 months she's pretty easy, similar to her sister.

Well considered that LO#1 fits your description of LO#2 curse EXACTLY, I am know really scared of #2 who is still baking lol. I am banking on him being mellow!!!!

As a teacher, I do see a pattern of this, especial with brothers.

I'm expecting my second boy. My first son is a dream... Seriously. He was a wonderful baby and he is overall very mellow. I'm praying #2 is just as wonderful!

In my family my bro was the hell-raiser and I was the angel.

@cascademom: I hope so! My friend's first was a really tough baby and she just had her 2nd and says he is SO much easier and laid back. I really hope we paid our dues with DS1.

Not for us!!

LO1 has always fit the "curse" description, haha! LO2 is mellow, listens better and she doesn't throw as many tantrums.

LO3 is turning me grey though!

My experience is the opposite! My oldest son is my tougher kid by far. He is always pushing my buttons, was a very fussy baby, and didn't sleep through the night until he was 18 months old! My second son is so chill and relaxed. He hardly ever cries, and he started sleeping through the night at 4 months old. The difference between them is like night and day.
