In one of the other threads about reading The Great Gatsby came up repeatedly. I just finished it and I am curious to see what other people's take on it is.
I enjoyed it, I liked the peek into life during that time and the way all the characters were tied together but I feel like I am missing something. What makes this book exceptional?

@Cole: I'm interested to hear why people love it, too. I'm an avid reader, but I couldn't get into The Great Gatsby at all. I understand it "captures an era" but I really disliked the characters, especially Daisy. I just couldn't make myself care what happened to them, they annoyed me that much.

I'm not sure.. but when DH saw the commercial for the new movie he got very excited. I'll ask him why.

I'm about to reread it for my book club (I can't remember a thing about it) along with Tender is The Night. I'm curious about which one I will enjoy more.

@MrsKoala: I LOVED Tender Is the Night. The Great Gatsby I could take or leave. Thought I am kind of excited for the movie! I think a lot of people just really like the window into that time and place--I think people have a romantic view of it, even though I don't necessarily think that's what Fitzgerald intended!
