It sounds sort of silly, but I hated when people said "oh your life is going to change so much". I always thought to myself, I sure hope so, that's the point! If you've dreamed and tried for a baby it's probably because you wanted the amazing life change. So I don't need to be given a warning about it...

I hated being told to sleep when she slept. I mean I know it's a good idea in theory but I just can't sleep during the day, it doesn't matter how tired I am. Also when she was sleeping was when I needed to eat/shower/do anything else to feel human.

@erinbaderin: yes! Confession: I actually cried after DS was born one time because DH suggested that he might be hungry and I had been nursing him all day and I felt like he thought that I wasn't feeling my child!

But it bugs me when anyone says that. If my kid is hungry I'll feed them!

I think everyone hates the "just you wait" or "your life is going to change so much" comments".... 🙄

I don't like being told to "enjoy it" or reminded of how quickly it goes by... It makes me feel guilty if I'm having a bad day with the kids, and makes me feel like I should be "trying harder" if I'm tied or grumpy or whatever

While pregnant I was annoyed when people would ask if DH was excited. Umm yeah, he planned to be a daddy same time I planned to be a mommy. I got that question alot.

I didn't really know how I big I looked while pregnant, but now it makes sense why so many people kept asking if I was sure about my due date and if the baby arrived yet.

After LO arrived I hated when people (our moms) would suggest the baby was hungry or tired when I knew all he wanted was to change positions. I didn't like the hundred questions on his sleep. No one agreed with how we dealt with his sleep and ours, so answering the question truthfully illicited "that must be that new parenting stuff." Oh boy!

People telling me to enjoy every minute. People asking me "aren't you just so happy/thrilled/whatever"? People looking at me like I had 3 heads when I admitted life with a newborn sucked. People telling me my baby was cold when its 90 freaking degrees outside. Oh and people (then and now) telling me whatever thing is coming is worse. Doesn't matter if I say I'm having a hard time or I'm loving the current age. "wait until x." Nope. Maybe my kid will suck and maybe not but dreading it isn't going to help.

@catgirl: yesssss. I also am terrible at sleeping during the day in general, and honestly when he sleeps I want to be awake to get some time to myself and enjoy no one touching me

@Anya: ughh That would totally gross me out! Ewww!!

@Mae: Oooh that reminds me of how people say "aren't you just loving being a mom!!!" And honestly? I had such awful PPA PPD and really struggled becoming a mom and had to force a smile every time and coo yess. When all I wanted was to break down crying about how tired I was and how much harder this is than I thought and I actually hated being a mom. I didn't start to grow into motherhood for awhile. But I had a lot of guilt over it for a long time

Also this isn't a thing people said, but it was something that pissed me the f off when my baby was a newborn.... people coming over to see/hold my baby while wearing strong perfume or smelly lotion. I HATED when someone would hand me my baby back and my baby smelled like them. I don't really know why so much... but it just felt extremely invasive and wrong. I made my husband tell my MIL to stop wearing perfume when she was here when my daughter was 3 mo old bc it bothered me so much.

@Anya: @Mrs. Pen: Oh no! I didn't know this was a bad comment to make. I volunteer to hold and comfort fussy babies in a mommy and me yoga class in exchange for taking a prenatal yoga class for free. One of the babies (not a newborn, like a 5 month old) I was holding was so fascinated by my boobs and then dive-bombed them. I off-handedly made a comment that he'd be disappointed because there was nothing in there yet. I hope his mom wasn't totally grossed out. Now I'm embarrassed.

@wrkbrk: @Mrs. Pen: OMG I hate that toooooooo! People always say "Just wait" in such a snotty tone that implies parenting only gets harder as you go. My kid is almost 3 and she is harder now than when she was a baby in some ways, but it's also so much more fun in other ways. No one mentions to wait until your kid becomes a super fun independent person.

The worst one I've gotten lately is "Doesn't your husband want a boy?!?!?!?" when I tell them I'm pregnant with our second girl. First of all, there really isn't much I can do about it at this point and secondly, no my husband is thrilled with our perfect healthy pregnancy. He isn't waiting on a son and heir to inherit- this isn't the 1600s!!!

@caterw: ugh yes. DD2 is TWO WEEKS OLD and we've been asked a dozen times if we'll be trying for a boy. Let me heal a bit, and we'll be sure to get back to you on that.

@Mae: Yes! It bothered me so much when MIL would hold DD and she'd come back smelling like old lady perfume!

When strangers would ask about the baby's sleep?! I just couldn't understand why it mattered to them? If they were I feel like you got the ohhh how lucky you are and the next one will be hell or if they didn't they were ready to yell you the reason why not..,.......who asked you.....lol

@BabyTsMom: my dad asks me almost every day, "how did he do last night?" Well, he didn't sleep much -- same as the night before. And the night before that. 🙄

@FaithFertility: My MIL always asks "how's he feeding?" I don't know! He seems to be growing? Do you really want to hear about my boobs?

This time around (Baby 3), I noticed how EVERYONE'S first question after learning you are pregnant is: are you going to find out the sex? I know they are just showing interest, and it didn't bother me as much with LOs 1 and 2 (maybe because the answer was a simple "yes" or "yes, it's a girl")? But this time, DH and I didn't agree, so it was a long drawn out answer with a lot of explanations, stories, and potential back-tracking.

And of course, with 2 girls already, the inevitable comments about wanting a boy (me or particularly DH, despite neither of us caring at all).

Whenever the ILs are around and DS acts like a little brat (which seems to be EVERY time, they bring it out in him I swear), FIL says "y'all are doing a good job, mom and dad" in this way that makes me want to scream. The words are nice, but the way he says it makes me feel like we look like we are ready to throw ourselves over a cliff.
