I thought that the first season was just ok but I am really enjoying the second season now that there is more character development.
I thought Mandy Moore's acting was a little annoying in season one but now I am liking her character more.

I like it - interesting stories and characters and something different

I really like it. I don't get much tv time and this is us is usually the first show I go to when I am scrolling my dvr

I love it, although I have to be in the mood to cry. I especially love Sterling K Brown - both his storylines and the actor. He’s so wonderful. I also really loved the actors who played both going William and old William.

@erinbaderin: he is MY favorite too! He's soooooo good. (sterling, that is)

I love it! I don't watch a lot of TV but I watch the show weekly. Agreed on Sterling K Brown - his acting/character are both wonderful!
No spoiler but I can already tell next week's episode is going to be emotional for me.

Love this show. I find Kevin's story line annoying, though. I wish Randall (Sterling K Brown) was the only child and it was all about him
honeydew / 7504 posts
@erinbaderin: Yes to Sterling K. Brown. He was great on the OJ show and then on This is Us he's just phenomenal. Randall and Beth are relationship goals - they're just perfection.
@lawbee11: I've also always been kind of put off by Kevin. I'm anxious to see how his character development goes over the next few episodes, because it seems like we're going to delve into his background more here.

Recently binged season one. I like it because these people have all the kinds of conversations with their loved ones that I wish I could have with mine.

****spoiler alert,*** need input....
So many people love it and I am intrigued. However, I haven't tried it out because I think I read something about a pregnancy loss or stillbirth occurring in the first couple episodes, and I don't want to watch that especially if it is a big part of the whole season, it will be too triggering for me.... people who have seen it, what do you think?
pomelo / 5129 posts
**SPOILER AS WELL**
@DesertDreams88: The stillbirth is a huge part of the story line, but I wouldn't necessarily say they dwell on it. It's not dealt with visually that I remember...it's just mentioned after the fact. The doctor that attended the birth is fantastic. I hated him and his speech at first (it was still a bit too raw for me), but he is really real. I feel like the writers must have dealt with some of these issues to be able to write about them the way they do.
I was hesitant to watch it because the stillbirth leads to an adoption and I felt like that was a super weak bandaid, but I think throughout the show they do a decent job of dealing with it in a very real way. They don't pretend any of it was easy, and I really appreciate that.
I bawled through the first episode, but after that, I didn't feel like the child loss was so much a focus that it was hard to deal with. But it's a show that I DVR because I know I have to be in the right head space to be able to enjoy it and not get too emotional.

Binged first season in the last two weeks and finished the first episode of season 2. **Spoilers**
I love so much about this show.
The mom breastfed the adopted son.
The dad is the best dad to all three kids.
The kid and teen actor who plays Kevin. The sibling rivalry seems so real.
Toby is funny AF.
The willingness Randall has to care for his dad and form a relationship.
Beth and Toby commentary calling out the sap and BS.
It’s a beautiful show that has left me balling a few times.

I love this show so much too! Sterling K. Brown is an amazing actor and I feel like I'm always so invested in his storylines. I've loved Milo since his Gilmore Girls days and I think he's the perfect patriarch to the family.
Did anyone watch last night's episode? I won't post any spoilers but after an emotional filled episode, I was not expecting that surprise at the end.
@skinnycow: I agree that next week's episode is going to be very difficult to watch. I hope you're doing well.

@sunflowerbee: yes! The part at the end really got me. I didn't see it coming.

I so love this show. I'm not caught up yet on Season 2, but I just appreciate how they make everything so real. And Randall and Beth really are relationship goals. She cracks me up as does Toby.
The only person I'm really getting annoyed with is Mandy Moore. I feel like she's over acting way too much.
pomelo / 5573 posts
@2PeasinaPod: Randall and Beth are my new Eric and Tami Taylor.
@DesertDreams88: The show is VERY good, and I would say that while the thing you're worried about does happen it isn't a major storyline. I might suggest reading a plot summary of the first episode to see how much you think it will upset you, and going from there?

Those of you binge watching, where are you finding episodes? I'm disappointed that this show isn't on Netflix, and it's more than I want to pay on Amazon Prime.

@winter_wonder: Me neither! In fact I had read interviews/articles that made it sound like that outcome would be unlikely.
@meadow: I was already ugly crying from Kevin's scenes and then started full on sobbing during the end. It didn't help that I had just gotten back from an OB appointment too so the topic of Kate's story was on my mind.
@skinnycow: Glad to hear it! I've been thinking of you.
pomelo / 5524 posts
@skinnycow: I've had 4 losses, and while that plot line is there, it's not a giant focal point. I cried some ugly cry through it, but I think it was a bit of a therapy...like I needed to know that it happens to other people and I wasn't alone. And they do a great job of showing that it's not as easy as just getting over it.

I haven't cried yet but it really sucks you in to binge watching. I'm about halfway through the first season and then I jumped ahead and read summaries of key episodes, including the latest one because I don't know how to wait. Love each of the unique, quirky characters....so many questions to be answered and adventures awaiting!
Besides the mom and wife stuff, I could really relate to the scene with Randall trying to hide his intelligence to be accepted and the sibling rivalry stuff.
Question: Which is your least favorite character?
GOLD / watermelon / 14076 posts
@808love: You haven’t cried yet?? I don’t consider myself particularly emotional when it comes to tv/movies, but damn, that show really gets me. Episode 16 (“Memphis”) of the first season is my abosolute favorite of the series and the one that made me cry the hardest.
Kevin is my least favorite character.
honeydew / 7622 posts
@lawbee11: I have not cried yet.
I’m on team boo Kevin and Toby- it’s just tooooo much the ultimate in romantic gestures 🙄
pomelo / 5573 posts
@lawbee11: I basically can count on crying once per episode.
@808love: I don't love Toby - he's so pushy! But I also, honestly, don't care that much about Jack.
wonderful pea / 17279 posts
My least favorite character portrayal is adult Kevin. After the most recent episode when he was at Sophie’s doorstep I get him more now. He was fake.
My favorite is Beth and by extension Randall although his relationship with his mom gives me the creeps.

I just binge watched it over the past few days. I think it is good, but not AMAZING. Mandy Moore's character annoys me, so do Kevin and Toby! My coworkers kept telling me I would cry and cry but maybe I'm a hardass--the only part that has me sort of teary eyed was William's postcard to Beth!
SPOILER
I feel like the only reason I'm still watching is because I'm dying to know more about what really happened to Jack!!! They keep lingering the plot line and it's driving me crazy. I feel like it's getting close though because the last episode had the kids in HS and we know it happened when Kevin's knee was injured.
pear / 1728 posts
@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Totally agree. My least favorite is Kevin and I love both Randall and Beth.
pomelo / 5866 posts
wow!! I finally got to the 20s episode just now and it was sooo good, my favorite actually. I finally cried and I’m 99 percent sure I figured out what happened to Jack!! I want to discuss but I don’t want to give any spoilers......
Also I still don’t have an unfavorite except I want Becca to stop saying Jack’s name over and over!!! Kevin must have really gone downhill bc I still remember him cutting out of his opening night play to run and be with Randall during his dark moments so I still empathize with him. I’m all bummed bc I know he is going to mess stuff up with Sophie!!!

Anyone have any theories on what happened to Jack?
And Kevin, why is he such a brat/jerk?! Ugh so annoying.
pear / 1703 posts
@Boogs: I read a plausible theory online about Jack... that he dies in the fire which is caused somehow by the washing machine (faulty wiring?). I still can't figure out why Kate seems to feel responsible though?!
I wonder how long they are going to wait to tell us!
With Kevin it just seems to be his personality. I've encountered people (men) like him in my real life. They are the star of the world in their youth and become very entitled and narcissistic as a result.
What are your thoughts?
pear / 1548 posts
@Autumnmama79: @Boogs: I think that’s definitely it. I think that the fire gets caused by faulty wiring in the home and they forget the dog inside. Jack runs back in, saves the dog, but doesn’t make it out which causes Kate’s guilt. I remember reading an interview with Milo Ventimiglia and he said to pay close attention to the dog.
pear / 1703 posts
@Boopers: Ah, good catch there! That makes a lot of sense. Do you remember anything about when we will learn? Will it be in this second season or?
