My son is 18 days old and I have only had time to get on HB a handful of times! Between having my hands full (literally) with him and visitors, I feel like I rarely have more than 5 minutes for anything! Like all newborns, he just loves being held and cuddled and during the day I cater to that (at least now).
I see some posters with newborns on here frequently - how do you do it!?

I would prop my laptop on a stool beside my glider and while LO was nursing (or, when I would be stuck in the glider because LO had fallen asleep and I didn't dare move), I'd be on HB typing away with one hand!

i used to use my laptop while nursing too in the same set up that rubies had. Now I use my iphone! i am always on hellobee, checking my email, on pinterest and instagram while nursing.

@Rubies: @Mrs. Bee: I feel like I'm still too new at the nursing thing (and we had a hard time getting the hang of it...) to let myself do anything else during nursing sessions - I still sandwich the boob for a good latch with one hand and cradle with the other. Can't wait until he's big enough so I can surf the internet on my iphone during nursing sessions : )

Have you tried a Moby? It has a learning curve, but once I got used to it I got some hands free time.

@Mrs. Yoyo: I want to try it, but DS is still a little small for it - he's only 6 lbs...if I go by the "rules" I think I'm supposed to wait until he is 8 lbs?

It was hard for me at first too especially because everyone said you would have time to do things while nursing (eat a snack, drink some water, read a book, check your phone). In reality, those early days/weeks of nursing required that I sit up straight with the boppy holding the back of baby's neck and the other hand cupping the breast. There was no way I had a free hand!
Over time though it got to the point that I could lay her on the boppy and she would nurse away and I suddenly had ALL the time in the world to catch up with HB!

I had the same question when DD was a newborn. I would sometimes get on and try to type one-handed, but that got old really fast. It started getting easier around the 3 month mark for me.

I was able to get ona lot the first month because DH and other family members were around to help. After that, I didn't get on a lot until I returned to work!

I didn't join until LO was 4 months. But I always had DH to help me in the evenings, and when he would take LO I'd sneak off to the computer.

Lo was 6 months old when I joined HB! My mom was here for a couple of weeks so I had a lot of down time during the day when Lo napped. For some reason I couldn't sleep when she was sleeping

I HBed on my phone while nursing. I've become very proficient typing with one band on my phone.

@winniebee: Ah. I found conflicting things ... apparently some hospitals even use them for preemies! I guess you could ask your doctor if they thought it was kosher.

@winniebee: iPad, iPad, iPad. I tried to do something for work on my laptop one day and it was a disaster. But the iPad is so light, you can carry it with one hand or under your arm and it quickly turns on and off. I almost consider the iPad (or other tablet or smart phone) must have baby gear - for the Mommy.

During downtime when DD naps, she goes down for usually 2 hrs so I'll do chores then reward myself w/HB.

i use my iPhone most of the time when i check on here, especially when i'm up at night with him trying to get him to sleep. typing with one hand has become a skill :o)

@winniebee: We started Lovey Duds on day of life 2 with both our girls. Lala was 5 lb 7 oz when we started and M was 6 lb 2 oz. You just have to gauge when you feel comfortable... but in developing countries it's how they care for premies

while nursing at night. because i have nothing better to do while nursing for half the night....
mostly on the right boob because i can hold him one handed. left boob feeding is still usually a 2 handed affair for me. but right boob--i can run around the house; i did laundry and made lunch yesterday while nursing him! he's heavy though, so it got old really fast.
during the day i *usually* read my kindle while nursing

@Mrs. Jacks: btw I just saw the lovey duds on Etsy and I'm in love!! I love that some of them are made with the lightweight bamboo! I totally want one for summer now lol even though I already have two baby carriers.
I either used my iPod while Cobi slept on my chest/in my arms, or while nursing (though you're right, the first couple weeks were rough). I wasn't on hellobee a lot until Cobi was about a month old. Now I'm on here while he naps, or when DH is home to take care of him.

@winniebee: i thought that too, and held off using it... but then I realized, he's going to be ON ME, therefore I'll be supervising him every second, so if anything didn't feel right or he had trouble breathing, I would just take him out. So I started him in the moby around the second week, and he was back up to his birthweight of 7lbs. I used it a lot the weeks after that, until 6 weeks when he started napping on his own.
