I'm wondering if after reading the post about hiding boards of we might all benefit from a TMI category on here. I am such a raw person and I like to be open but I know for many that's what makes them shy away or find certain things distasteful. . I know we have had anything goes threads but I feel like tmi can be such a wide umbrella from Sex to bodily functions of us or our babies. I also wonder if a "Taboo" thread might benefit us when more controversial or touchy subjects are broached. Id love a place where i feel safer sharing certain things but also like to make people who are turned off feel safer. Would you a like this?

I did suggest the idea of having a 'TMI' checkbox. If you are posting something that you think is a little TMI, that you could select that checkbox.
Though, something that is TMI to one user could not be TMI to another user. So it would be hard to determine what is TMI?
Is all sex talk TMI? I don't think so.
Also, could someone be offended if certain thread was re-categorized into the TMI board.

@MrsMccarthy: sometimes people will add the letters "TMI" to the beginning of their thread title, so people know what's up before clicking in... would that do the trick?

I think there are too many categories as it is, soi think it's better for people to just click on things or not based on their own comfort level

For me, that's what gold is for. If I'm going to post something tmi or personal I make the thread gold and then stick TMI in the title. I don't think a separate category is necessary.

@Leialou: I don't really consider Gold for TMI things necessarily. For example, if I'm concerned about the color and consistency of my son's poop, I'd probably consider that TMI, but not make it Gold because it's not really something I care about keeping private!

@Adira: that's true. I think it would make more sense to post it in the diaper or your LOs health board and not in a TMI board. I just think a TMI board is a bit vague.

@Leialou: Oh, good point about gold. Yeah, I agree. My suggestion for the TMI checkbox was way before gold.

I think putting "TMI" at the beginning of a post title is sufficient. I like the idea of a TMI checkbox though to make it sort of "automated" upon creating the post.

@bluestriped bee: this is my thought, too--TMI is very subjective. I'm a fan of keeping things simple, so I'm with @purplepeony: that you can click on things based on the title or not.
@MrsMccarthy: I appreciate where you're coming from and your goal to make people feel more willing to share. I'm not sure if labeling something TMI would do that though. Is there another way you can think of to foster openness in an online community?

@bluestriped bee: Hahaha, sorry, I'm just picturing it (a post getting recategorized. Because one time one of my posts got recategorized (wasn't a big deal) but for the life of me I couldn't figure out what was going on. If I came back to my post and found out someone had labeled it TMI I would just be..."what"...

Maybe it's just me though. I love the idea of an "anything goes" implication but maybe it's not worth a while category.

@Adira: exactly! there are a lot of things like poop or cm that I know some people could do without but I also won't make gold because I want a broader amount of POVs.

I personally don't think a TMI board is necessary. If it's something that might make someone uncomfortable, I think a "TMI" in the title would suffice as adequate warning.

I know it's a pain but I think putting TMI is the best bet. Sometimes I'll see, "...and we BD every day this week. Tmi sorry!" Or "I had the runs - tmi, sorry!" Or something equally as innocuous. I'm usually like, why is that tmi? LOL.
To me detail is the tmi..ha. Describing words. Gag. Idk. But again that's just me, so I feel like there isn't one size fits all TMI tag..so if someone hid that board they may miss threads that they could benefit from if it's not as tmi as they consider.

I think just putting TMI in the subject if you're worried is sufficient. Then anyone squeamish can choose not to open it. I think all TMI posts would fall into another category (so feeding TMI's, sex TMI's, TTC TMI's, etc) so it would be hard to truly categorize. I think putting TMI or "TMI??" in the subject line warns people enough and I don't really see how it's different than selecting a TMI category for the post you're writing.
I'm like you- I don't shy away from stuff! So I will probably be more likely to open TMI posts, haha.

I think TMI is probably enough in the beginning of a thread but I don't hate the idea of a Taboo category either.

I think there should be a taboo or "naughty" board becauae sometimes I am tempted to ask ridiculously personal sex questions.

I don't think we need an TMI category but there def needs to be a sex category because there isn't a place to yield all those qs. There are a variety of them from sex in a marital relationship, to sex pasts and more.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: @CupQuakeWalk: We could create a separate board just for that. We already have a "Gender/Sex" board, so maybe a different word (like "Intimacy") would be less confusing.

@mrbee: yes, intimacy would work. But also the fact that "sex" is not under pregnancy may work too.
Eta: you can only see subcatag in the title so nevermind. Intimacy would work best.
