Oy, this is such a complex issue. We are a Montessori household, in the extreme. I absolutely want to respect her wishes, and plan to do so. She is really verbal, so she was able to tell me that she wanted disposables, because she had a rash, and because they felt better than cloth. So, obviously, I'm going to do that.

The REAL issue is potty training. She is 23 months old, and is actually about half way there. We do days (whenever she feels like it, basically) where she just runs around naked, and usually (not always) holds it in. Then she asks to use the potty, and we do, whenever she wants - but she cannot yet release and actually use the potty reliably. I figured that was just a development thing, and I'm just following her lead.

I've seen friends who had a lot of success with an all or nothing approach at this age. I've also seen a family member fail to potty train her daughter with that method and just create a lot of stress and hassle for everyone involved, so I'm really gun shy about just going for it. But, that does seem to be what she wants to do. I'm just at kind of a loss about the entire issue, honestly.
