Tonight between 11-6 we start the Dr. Jay Gordon night weaning method! I am so nervous and exhausted just thinking about it. I'll need a lot of support to get through the crying and no sleep. Any tips or words of encouragement?

You can do it! I know you want #2 to happen asap, so I hope that help to motivate you! Just know that no matter how bad he cries/screams, etc, it's normal and everyone goes through that adjustment period. Hang in there and vent on HB whenever! Lots of and hugs

@snowjewelz: @swedishfish: @autumnlove: @Smurfette: thank you! We just had the left molar break through so I'm hoping that helps. I'll also give him a dose of Motrin in case he is nursing out of pain.

Just lots of luck for you! Stay strong and stick to your guns. The first few weeks of training is always so hard, but you'll be kicking yourself later for not doing it sooner!

You can do it. I'm not going to lie, it's going to suck. But he's old enough, you're ready, and all three of you deserve a good night's sleep!

We we did it, we committed to walking away/out of earshot for X amount of time to stay strong. Typically we alternated so someone could hear her heaven forbid, but completely getting away from the noise realllllly helped us each. Beats both sitting/lying there, both listening and tormenting yourself!

I'm not familiar with that specific method but good luck! Remember that your bond with your sweet boy is already rock solid. He very well may end up happier (more well rested!) at the end of this! And hopefully that means a second pregnancy for you. We did extinction at sixteen months and within a few days it was over and LO was fine. She now cries for us if she has a bad dream or something but not otherwise. Hope it goes well!!!

Thank you so much you guys! I may be reporting from the trenches later. Trying to rest now.
@googly-eyes: that's what I keep in the back of my mind. Better rest for our whole family. Jay Gordon is a family bed friendly physician. His method is a lot like self soothing but you are there with the child the whole time. Should be a lot of crying and anger at first but we are going to give it the college try.
