That is crap load of kids. I can't even imagine inviting that many kids. That said R's 1st birthday will have over 50 people invited, and that will just be close family. Doesn't include them all and we are going to have to skip friends and their kids, cause I just won't do 75+ people.

I said "over the top" but we've already planned that our kiddo can have big 1st, 5th, 10th and 16th birthdays, with the other birthdays being quite small. We don't want to set up expectations we have to keep going, and we want the focus to be on celebration and family, not things.

I wouldn't throw a party like that, and I definitely don't think parties need to be fancy or expensive, but I'd take my son to it if he was a friend of the birthday child's. I bet it will be fun for the partygoers!

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I wouldn't leave R at a party by herself at a party. Especially cause it was so huge.

Ummmm....I'm gonna have to vote over the top, though I agree that the kids would think it was awesome.

ETA: the idea of having to manage that many kids (even with parents around), makes me want to curl up in a ball and cry.

Ok ladies, lets all be honest for a minute. When we first read the post, we judged ( a lot, a little, it doesn't matter). Then as the post went on, it became more about the details, the sales, the 40 % off the favors and we all relaxed a bit.

Our first thought is to think "these people are so materialistic! I would never do that!" But if we could and we had the finances and space, at least some of us would. And why shouldn't we? Because we are worried everyone else thinks we're over the top?

I say over the top, but there are worse things than big birthday parties.

I completely misread the part about Doc McStuffins and thought it said StudMuffin and I immediately was confused. Clearly, I'm overtired

It seems like a wee bit much. What are motivational dancers? And 47 4 year olds in the same place? I work with little kids and all but that sounds like a migraine waiting to happen. Sounds like those kids could get easily overstimulated and you could have meltdown city on your hands.

That sounds like a first birthday party over here. People spend thousands of dollars on a first birthday party. My hubs first bday party had 300 people! I think its a trip, they have face painters and jumpers and cater food and balloon people, magicians, some have even had a bar for the parents! It's crazy!

So yeah my vote is over the top. It's cool that they got such great deals though. The child might remember the party. I'm all for having a party like that that the birthday boy/girl will remember!

@looch: agreed. Given the money/space I wouldn't mind.

Whenever I read some of the posts on hellobee I think, ummmmm 400 for an area rug?! 200+ for a diaper bag?! What the?! But then I remember that a lot of bees make a lot more than we do so 200 is more like 40 for me. Same thing with this party, while I might "go all out" and spend 500, a lot of the bees don't think twice about spending 1000+ on a small get together. If/when the husband makes more, I will definitely throw parties like this

If the parents can afford it or find ways to make it happen, more power to them so I voted just right. I love event planning and use to help at big events before I had LO so this sounds like a lot of fun for everyone involved, the hosts and guests. Throwing a party within your budget whether big or small is the key!

Meh - whatever - to each their own - I'm sure the kids will have a blast!!

That truly does sound like a lot of work/planning - wish I could be more organized for events!
