Hi all, might be a silly question. Right now we have one of those smallish storage shelves in the living room with 4 baskets and we are rapidly outgrowing it with bigger and more toys now that he's older. Today I purged a lot of the older baby-ish stuff but I still feel like we need a bigger storage bin like the ones at land of nod. But I don't want those in my living room. (NYC apartment. Enough said).
Is it crazy to keep all or most of his toys in his bedroom? My nanny thinks it will confuse him and he won't go to sleep because he'll want to play. Which sorta makes sense? Right now his room is only used for sleep and changing and bedtime book and bottle. No real playing.
He just turned 1.
His sleep for naps and nighttime are so awesome that she's making me nervous to move his toys in there. Im OK with him playing in the living room still, just want to store them in the bedroom.
Any thoughts? Has anyone made the switch and it was fine? A disaster?

When we lived in a condo, all of DD's toys except her toy kitchen lived in her room. They have a playroom now, but there are still toys in their rooms and it hasn't been a problem re sleep.

Growing up, our toys were always kept in our rooms and we'd just pull them out into the living room to play (or play in our rooms), but we still knew when it was time to go to bed that we were to go to sleep and not play!
Xander's still in a crib, so I don't have this issue, but he has a ton of toys in his room and we play in his room all the time, so he doesn't seem confused about that.

About 1/2-3/4 of lo's toys are in her room. We're also in an nyc apartment and there's way more space in there than the living area, though her toys spill out all over anyway

We live in an apartment. Most of the toys are in LOs's rooms. We keep 2 smallish bins and the play kitchen in the living room. But I want to move the toy kitchen to one of their rooms. Toys in their rooms haven't bothered their sleep. I hate the toy clutter.

I thought this would be a problem as well, and it turned out not to be at all. My son did fine with toys in his room, he doesn't ever get out in the middle of the night and bust out the magnatiles or whatever!

My sons toys have always been in his bedroom and so far it has been no problem. I do worry though that when we move him to a bed he will get out and play with them instead of napping!

I'd say 85% of toys are in LOs room, we've never had an issue with bedtime, naptime a little more because she is a nap fighter, so I would find her playing. But I decided at almost 3 as long as she's doing "quiet" time I'm okay with this. My biggest issue is getting her to pick up her room when playtime is over, we struggle with "but mom it's in my room, it's okay"

Most toys are in our LO's bedroom. I don't like the whole house to feel like Kidville. It does t seem to be a problem.

I worried about this too! When we moved to our new house we set up her baby dolls and their accessories in her room. So she has a little crib, doll chair, blankets, bottles, clothes, etc.
At first they were distracting so we started putting them to sleep before she goes down for her nap or bedtime. We just put blankets over them. Works great!

We live in an apartment and 90% of the toys are in the living room. Partly it's because I don't want to isolate her to her room (and she prefers to be in the common areas anyway), and partly because I don't want there to be too much association with sleep. We do have some toys in her room - mainly in a toy box that's covered, and a few things out on the floor that she can tinker with before bedtime and in the morning (our bedrooms are carpeted and the rest of the place is hard wood so for the neighbors' sake, I prefer that she play in the carpeted places in the mornings and evenings). We make a practice of putting things away at bedtime and having them "go to sleep" so you could make it part of the routine to avoid that play time-sleep time confusion. I do worry about a switch to a big girl bed, but that's why we're waiting as long as we possibly can to move her out of the crib (she's 28 months).

Most of E's toys are in his room, and it's not been a problem. If he wakes up a little bit early he'll sometimes play a little, but that's it.

Maybe before I go and buy the big land of nod bins I'll move the one organizer I have to his room and see how that goes.
I also don't mind if he clutters up the living room with them during the day. It's more that at the end of the day I dread picking them up because I don't have anywhere to put all of them!I guess the other problem is that I often pick up his toys after he goes to bed. So if they're all in his room I can't do that.
Really not a major problem, just something to consider. I like the idea some of you said about "putting the toys to bed". Maybe that can be part of our routine after bath and before his night milk.Thanks again, super helpful!
