I traveled 2 hours away for a wedding at 38 weeks and 2 days. My doctor was fine with it and reinforced that it was very unlikely that I wouldn't have time to get home since it was my first baby. In my mind, I was also sure baby wouldn't be coming for awhile.

I ended up going into labor the next day after all but the travel wasn't a problem at all. I say go with your gut and if you travel, just be prepared to leave at a moment's notice if your water breaks or contractions start!

We're considering going about 4 hours away (to a place that we'd only have access to a ferry home between 7am-8pm) at 37-2. It's away from home, but there's a hospital there, so I kind of feel like it's not a big issue? I've been working with a clinic with 9 different doctors so the chance of one of the doctors I know/like even being there when I actually have the baby seems just as risky as ending up at a random hospital.

I'm sure you'd be fine!! Do you have any pre labor signs to suggest you may go early? 2 hrs isn't that bad, I traveled 3 hrs. At 36 weeks and never even thought twice about it but that's just me. Good luck

We drove 2 hours away when I was 39+ weeks. I was 3cm dilated at my 39 week appt but hadn't felt any contractions and wasn't anticipating a speedy labor since it was my first. I didn't even think about it really.

Haha, I was a five-hour drive away, two days before I went into labor. My hospital was already a 2-hour drive from home, so going to a place where many more hospitals were minutes away didn't seem a terribly big risk for me!

We went on vacation 9 hours away (by car) when I was 33-34 weeks pregnant. My BIL researched all of the hospitals in the area, just in case (all of my nephews were early, plus we had one very elderly grandmother and a nephew with bad asthma).

When I was 38 weeks I went to my BIL's house for a BBQ 2 hours away, and after that the furthest I went was 40 minutes, for my niece's birthday party a few days before I went into labor.

I think you'll be fine, but like pps said, maybe bring a small bag and double-check about hospitals around, just in case.
