I've flown with a carseat in a bag 6 times and have never had an issue. I've gate checked it each time, so maybe that's why?

I've had mixed results too! We put our Britax B-Agile stroller in its bag (looks like this due to the way it folds: http://www.britaxusa.com/accessories/b-agile-travel-bag) and our stroller which was gate checked each time did not come back to us the same way twice. Once it was put in cargo and put with regular luggage, once it came back at the gate and once it came back in the oversize luggage. It definitely was stressful searching for it the first time because we thought they had lost it.

For us, for the next trip we take, I'm buying a cheap umbrella stroller and just wrapping it in a clear bag. It seems like the handlers know the umbrella stroller "shape" and seem to know what to do with those. Plus, our bags came out filthy when we travelled last time. I wouldn't want our baby sitting in such a dirty seat since its not easy to get everything cleaned off at the airport.

I'm contemplating purchasing a stroller bag for the UB Gluxe we're about to buy. But, now I'm hesistant! The only times we'd take it on a plane, we'd 100% be gate checking!

We gatechecked our cheap graco lite rider and had NO issues of damage/etc. Maybe it's better off w/o a bag for gate chceks?

We checked our carseat not in a bag a few times and it was always in a different area and we had to go looking for it. I think it is the awkward shape of it or something.

@shopaholic: oh wait I just realized you gate checked it. Crazy! We had no issues when we gate checked things but we didn't use a bag.

@shopaholic: We got the First Years Ignite strollers for our trip. Hope they hold up during our travel!

@shopaholic: I hear ya, they are always super fast with the tagging, then I have to take it off and put it on the bag. Hopefully the second time was just a fluke. It's too bad that you guys had that kind of stress!

As for strollers, we got the Kolcraft Contours for travel and tight spaces- we love it and it's relatively cheap, but sturdier than the typical umbrella stroller.

@shopaholic: I just saw this... awesome that they came back as expected.

For my domestic trip last week, my stroller came back at the gate and my car seat came back on the baggage belt for both legs of the trip! Woohoo!

@shopaholic: Oh because we checked it! But one time it didn't come back on the belt... we had to run around looking for it and it was with the oversize stuff.
