It's looking more and more like these are going to be our candidates in the general election. What do you do??

@avivoca: A lot of my family is Bernie supporters and they have said that if Hillary wins the nomination, they'll just write him in, so I feel you.
I'm worried that if enough people write-in for Bernie or a different Republican, Trump might actually win!

Hillary, of course. Trump doesn't represent me or the America I want to live in.

I was listening to the radio the other day and an interesting option was brought up, and that is to vote but not for a candidate on the ballot or a write in. I can't for the life of me remember the term that was used...does someone know? I want to say it is a no confidence vote, but that doesn't jog my memory.

I will vote for Hillary, even though I voted Bernie in the primary. DH hates her and has said he doesn't know if he could vote for her even against Trump, so he would probably write in Kasich just to make a point. I insist that he at least vote- but said I would be really upset if he votes for trump. Like really really upset.

What does write-in mean?
@looch: We have a trend here where people "spoil their paper", to show that they made the effort to turn up but didn't have confidence in any of the candidates. It seems to me like a wasted vote, though?
I'm not American, I like voting in polls, and I think Id vkte for Hillary in this instance. I do prefer Bernie but if Hillary was the candidate, shed get my vote. If I leaned more right, I have no idea what Id do...... no sensible person could vote for Trump, surely?

I honestly don't know. I'm definitely not voting for Trump, but I can't see myself voting for Hilary. I feel like a write-in is a waste.

@Adira: I also worry about that!!! If you support Bernie, I really don't understand how you could not also throw your support behind HRC if it means making sure that Trump stays out of office. I mean, I get standing up for your principles and all that, but would you rather have principles and President Trump? I doubt it...

This is pretty much a no-brainier, lol. I am a republican but come on..

DH said last night "This is hers to lose". Seriously, if she can't beat him, our country has serious issues.

I'd probably write in. I can NOT vote for Hillary or Trump. They are the most corrupt people and I can't believe what America is thinking right now.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Cherrybee: Write-in is just what it sounds like. You just write down the name of the candidate who gets your vote (like you could write in Rubio or O'Malley or even Mickey Mouse).
@hilsy85: I hear you! I just don't understand how people would think it would be better to abstain/write-in than support Hillary if it means Trump might win!
wonderful cherry / 21504 posts
@MrsKRB: DH just really dislikes both and says he could never vote for Hillary. I think he's wrong, but whatever. So his write in would basically be saying, I care enough to vote but cannot give my vote to either of you. That in itself is a small statement if enough people do it.

I don't like Hillary at all, but I will vote for her 100 times before I will vote for Trump. Trump scares me.
I might have voted for Rubio or Kasich against Hillary, but not Trump or Cruz.

Clinton in a heartbeat. My views line up more with Sanders, but I'm actually not sure who I would/will support in my state's primary (which isn't until mid-April) because pragmatically I think she might be a better candidate

I'm not a big fan of HrC and I have a ton of confidence in Bernie, but I am not confident enough people would write him in. There's too much at risk with Trump winning, so I'd have to go HrC. In any other election I would write in.
grapefruit / 4187 posts
Ps, I think it's highly unlikely trump would ever beat Hillary even with write-ins!
pear / 1718 posts
@NavyRN2012: Agreed. Hillary is one of the most corrupt prolific liars in recent political history (last 30-ish years) . . . I can't believe Americans have such a short memory.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Modern Daisy: I hope that's true, but he's doing so well in the primaries, that I'm getting scared!
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
I voted Bernie in the primary and don't love her but I'd definitely vote her over Trump, no question. This election terrifies me.

I think doing a write in is helping Trump win. It's going to be hard enough to beat him even if everyone who's against him gets out and votes. I know several seemingly sane people who are considering voting for him and can't see him for the hateful demagogue he is (I'm working on that). So Clinton for me any day. She's a career politician, but she's not the devil and I don't think she'll be that bad for the country. And I'm excited about the possibility of the first woman president!

@hilsy85: Agreed. I voted for Bernie in the primary but if HRC gets the nom (which is almost certain at this point) there's no way I'm writing in Bernie's name. IMO that's basically a vote for Trump.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Mama Bird: I agree - I think doing a write-in or staying home will only help Trump win. I mean, just look at how well he's doing EVERYWHERE. All those people that voted for him in the Primaries are going to come out and vote for him. Probably a bunch of other Republicans will vote for him. I even think some people that really hate Hillary will vote for him. So if you want to prevent him from becoming our next (and last, haha) President, you HAVE to go out and vote for his opposition. I really believe that.

Ugh. I would vote Hilary. Because of our electoral college system a write-in is a good way to show you don't like your options, but you aren't voting. I mean, technically you are, but not in such a way that will affect the outcome of the election.
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
Well, it's not really. There will probably be a contested election and Trump will end up Independent with either Cruz (more likely) or Kasich as the Rep nominee. I won't vote for Trump and I won't vote for Hilary.
squash / 13764 posts
@pwnstar: @NavyRN2012: but you seriously think that she is on the same level as Trump?! I mean, that is really what it comes down to--is HRC as bad as Trump? I don't think she's anywhere close, so IMO there is no contest between the two.
nectarine / 2932 posts
I've never voted democrat before, but you better believe I would if Trump is the independent or republican nominee.
pear / 1718 posts
@hilsy85: In many ways, she's (so much) worse. Neither of them is palatable, but Hillary doesn't have a shred of moral fiber left in her body. Trump is what he is.
GOLD / wonderful olive / 19030 posts
Hilary because there is no way in heck I could ever support Trump and to me a write in is a vote from Trump. I pray for our country for the next 4 years.
kiwi / 696 posts
@mediagirl: can you explain? I just heard the phrase contested in relation to the republican primary the other day, how do we get to there from where we are now? All other states vote Cruz or kasich?
squash / 13764 posts
@pwnstar: but what he is is racist, facist, xenophobic, a liar, divisive, inexperienced in politics...no way I could ever support that, and again, I worry that a write in or non vote could help him win.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
Hillary. I voted for her in the primary as well.
I am really educated on the issues, but continue to be confused by everyone who says Hillary is *so corrupt*. By that standard every single politician is *so corrupt*. She took $ for speaking engagements on Wall Street. BFD.
