How is this even a question for rational people? I don't care how much you hate Hillary (which btw I think most people do due to systemic male bias, but whatever). I don't care what she's done, and I definitely don't love all of it. But Trump is SCARY. He wants to break international laws, he has no respect for anyone (hello, more wars all over the world), he's an open racist and bigot that preaches hate and violence.
Trump appeals to the absolute lowest denominator - poor, uneducated people who think racism will "make this country great" again. If that's who you want to align yourself with, you might need to examine your priorities.

@hilsy85: yes. Trump is loud and in your face with his (disgusting) opinions and beliefs, but Hillary is a morally bankrupt liar.

I'm a Hillary supporter, so that's easy. I've admired her since I was young and she was the first lady and I remember all the vile hatred that was spewed at her back then for daring to be an ambitious woman. I'm already sold on her record, but it's seriously a bonus for me to think about the first woman president and what that means for my kids. They will grow up knowing that's possible and THAT is amazing.

@winniebee: that's how I feel about Hillary. She's done no more nor no less than any other career politician.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@meredithNYC: clap clap clap. I really think so many people hate her because they can't handle a strong, competent, female politician.

@NavyRN2012: So you think a man who says during a tv interview that we should hunt down all the terrorists' families and kill them (and in doing so break international laws) is not morally bankrupt?!
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I mean, would I prefer that she didn't take $200K per speech on Wall Street? Of course. Do I think that makes her morally bankrupt? No. She's always pushed for the issues that I care about. The end.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@ShootingStar: or how about telling supporters to take people out at rallies? punch people in the face who don't agree with him? Yeah.
persimmon / 1447 posts
@ShootingStar: I absolutely believe Trump is morally bankrupt, but he doesn't pretend NOT to be.
pomegranate / 3314 posts
@winniebee: I think a lot of people don't really remember how much hatred she has faced down and lady is still fighting. Respect. I'm 34, so while I was young when the Clintons were in the White House, I was a little nerd who really followed politics. And it's pretty clear to me that a lot of the feelings people have toward her are born out of the right being hell-bent on destroying her.
ETA: when I hear people on the left parroting the same old tired bs that Fox and the right have been peddling for years I cringe.
wonderful pea / 17279 posts
@meredithNYC: exactly! I read two of her books and was in awe of how she made the most of being FLOTUS. She's going to be an awesome president.

@ShootingStar: YES to all of this!
I'm a yuge Bernie supporter, but I will happily vote for HRC over Trump (or Cruz). Can you imagine what sort of Supreme Court nominee they would offer? (Presuming that the GOP manages to stonewall President Obama's nominees until after the election like they are threatening...)
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
@OhCaptain: if a candidate doesn't get 50% +1 of the votes, there can be a contested election. In this contested election, the delegates will vote again. I THINK they have to vote for the candidate they are pledged for first and then in subsequent rounds, they can change their vote. Can anyone confirm that?
It's also called brokered convention:

@NavyRN2012: So what is it about Hillary that is so bad? That she does the same things men do? And just like Obama is held to a higher standard than previous presidents, Hillary is held to a different standard because she's a woman.
coconut / 8472 posts
@mediagirl: Rachel Maddow was on the Tonight Show a week or two ago, talking about the RNC can basically nominate whoever they want, delegates be damned. She said they could potentially nominate Rubio or even Romney.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@meredithNYC: me too. I'm 35, almost 36. I campaigned for Clinton in 1996 (nerd alert). I think she'll be a fabulous president. The fact that Bill will be around the WH again is just an adde bonus
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@ShootingStar: I saw that. Part of me thinks that Romney lurking in the background here is his play at the contested election. He's not my favorite, but certainly a better option than Trump or Cruz or even Rubio.
coconut / 8472 posts
@winniebee: I was laughing the other day with my co-workers about the "good old days" of just having to worry about Romney and his binders full of women. Versus a man people are likening to Hitler and bringing on the Nazi regime .
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
@winniebee: @ShootingStar: our lovely system of "give the voters a voice" working well, as usual. I have no doubt that if it happens, no matter who they nominate, Republicans will lose. If you take the voters choice away, it's going to kill the general election for them. Even if the voters choice was disgusting.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@mediagirl: the whole electoral college / delegate system is just so outdated and makes no sense anymore. You'd think after what happened in Gore v. Bush there might have been some reform to the system.
pomegranate / 3314 posts
@MrsF: I'll admit I have been reluctant to really be "out" with my support of her because God knows it's not the cool thing to do at the moment. But f it, I'm going to be louder and prouder about it because we need more voices of support in her campaign.
coconut / 8472 posts
@mediagirl: That's basically what she was saying. That if "the establishment" chooses another candidate other than the one with the most delegates, that it would cause a giant, and possibly irreparable rift, in the Republican party.
As a democrat, I actually can't imagine a better scenario than the republican vote being split between 2 parties. But my worst nightmare is the party backing Trump.
pomelo / 5257 posts
Hillary, no question. I wouldn't risk writing Bernie in and letting trump win I'm actually concerned that a lot of diehard Bernie lovers will write him in and we could end up with trump for president. We're already an international laughingstock with him as the likely nominee. Can you imagine if he became president? It would be disastrous. I also agree with PPs that some of the vitriolic anti-Hillary stuff I've seen out there smacks of sexism. Anyway, even my Republican friends aren't voting trump. They know third-party votes will be a vote for Hillary, but one of my friends says, "if trump is our nominee, we deserve to lose."

@NavyRN2012: @ShootingStar: yes this.
I think it's one thing to be disillusioned with politicians in general--I totally get that. But it's another thing to equate what is sadly relatively common political pandering and lobbying and "corruption" with whatever hate filled lies that Trump is spewing.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@meredithNYC: yeah, I totally hear you. It's not *cool* to be young and liberal and for Hillary. It's expected that I should support Bernie. I like him too, but her knowledge, experience, and record sold me a long time ago.

I'm a republican and I hate Hillary but I would definitely vote for her. Better to have 4-8 more years of the status quo then have a wack job launch us into a world war.
nectarine / 2262 posts
@winniebee ditto. @shootingstar also agree 100 percent, think a lot of the Hillary hate is also a gender issue (just like I think the GOP Obama issue is a racial one).
I'm with her!
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
@JCCovi: best sentence I have read all day.
@meredithNYC: it's interesting you say that because a friend of mine was talking on FB today about how it makes no sense that people are voting for Clinton and Trump while all over social media, people are talking about Sanders and condemning Trump. It's like Trump and Clinton supporters are the silent majority this election season.
pomegranate / 3314 posts
@mediagirl: Yeah, I think it's probably because the Trump and Clinton voters tend to be a little older? But also, at least in my circle of progressive, Hillary-supporting women in the Northeast, it's tough being an HRC supporter in this climate. Post something positive about her and you get bombarded with hateful messages. I guess I shouldn't be afraid of that, but I don't know... I really dislike inviting that kind of conflict, you know?
pomelo / 5298 posts
I really can't get behind either of the front runners. I hope daily that we end up with a strong independent candidate because I don't like where we are headed with either of these two.
Also for the HRC supporters here, please be mindful that while you like her for a great variety of reasons there is simply differing beliefs. It's hard for me to rally up behind most liberal beliefs, so it's not necessarily a hatred for HRC, I just am not aligned with her beliefs (or Bernie for that matter!).

@meredithNYC: TBH I'm in the same boat. I need to get over it and speak up. A few of my liberal friends have written really beautiful, eloquent posts lately on why they're supporting HRC. That and conversations like this are giving me more confidence.
And yes about their being a generational gap. My mom and aunts are in disbelief that women our age (especially liberal ones) could consider not voting for HRC.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@meredithNYC: @winniebee: Agreed! It's definitely not the "in" thing to be for Hillary. Everyone I know loves Bernie. But I honestly think Hillary has more experience (especially with regards to foreign relations) and will do a better job as President. I voted for her in 2008 and I voted for her this time too.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@MamaG: Oh, I totally get people not supporting Hillary or Bernie because of their beliefs, especially more conservatives ones! What I DON'T understand is Bernie fans who think Hillary is just as bad as Trump!
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@NavyRN2012: yeah see I'd rather have someone at least pretend to have morals. At least they can be inspirational.
pomegranate / 3331 posts
@hilsy85: agree with you 100%. Especially with several SC nominees at stake, I would hope people could think sensibly about it and realize that he is much more likely to do major damage to this country in 4 years than she is. I saw a quote from a republican establishment person this morning (anonymous) that said something along the lines of "Cruz would be bad for our party, Trump would be bad for our country. I'd rather see Hillary win and lose the election than see President Trump."
Unfortunately, the election is often about choosing the lesser of 2 evils for many people, but I still believe in voicing my vote for an actual candidate, even if it meant supporting someone I don't believe in at all, like bernie, because the alternative is someone who thrives on hate speech.
@MrsADS: I agree. I feel she is held to a vastly different standard than a man would be in her position.

Hillary, all the way as well. So much of what you all have said rings true to me. @meredithNYC and @ShootingStar nailed it for me. And to your point, @winniebee, it hasn't been cool (my facebook is COVERED in friends who love Bernie), I need to start being much more vocal that I'm with her!
This may have inspired me start being much more loudly a big, fat, Hillary for President supporter!
