Does this still "count". I ask because the way I understand tummy time is that is supposed to be for them to work on developing muscles and skills. And i've found LO can handle being his tummy longer if I give him a pacifier....but then he also just lies there and doesn't move because he actually gets comfortable! Does that count as tummy time still? I try not to give the paci right away, but it's also nice because it gives me some extra time to get other things done. This morning he stayed on his tummy while I did my pumping session!

How old is LO? I would think it would count. When my LO was real little she didn't do much either, and sometimes would fall asleep. This is, of course, when she wans't screaming her head off because she hated it. Now, at 6 months, she does great with tummy time. For me I just wanted to get her used to being on her belly.

@chrispygal: he is just over 2 months. he can sometimes go up to 10 minutes without the paci, i just tried one time and he calmed right down!

To me if you're wanting him to strengthen neck & back muscles, he has to be looking around! Our little guy is pretty happy with tummy time if we're talking to him or moving toys by him so he flips his head from side to side to "find" us or the music we're playing.

@PurpleUnicorn: As long as they are on their tummy and making efforts to raise their head up then they are getting the exercise they need

My LO hates tummy time. But I just make her do it until she gets to a point of being really upset and then I flip her. I gave her a paci once and she just laid her head down which to me defeats the whole purpose since she's not strengthening her neck if she's just laying there.

@MamaMoose: @scg00387: ya, that's what i was thinkking too and hence why i posed the question! well, i guess it's good he can go up to 10 minutes without the paci because without it he is wiggling around and sometimes trying to lift his head. when i give the paci is when he just lies there. i am worried that he will get lazy though because i feel like i haven't seen him lifting his head on there as much as he used to. so maybe i will hold back with the paci on there and just take him off sometimes when he gets upset.

although, another reason i read about for tummy time is so they are not always on their backs which can lead to a flat spot, so i figure its not bad for him to have some extended tummy time even if its just to not be on his back.

@PurpleUnicorn: that's true! We just do bits and pieces throughout. The day so he never gets too riled up.

P HATED tummy time until she was almost 5 months. I couldn't even get her to do it for a minute b/c as soon as I would put her on her tummy she'd roll herself over! (she's got crazy horse legs).
Have you tried tummy time on your chest? P would lay like that on me and look up more often for a good little while before wanting to do something different. That was the only real tummy time she got for months! lol

@runsyellowlites: so far, LO can handle tummy time with no paci from anywhere from 2 - 10 minutes so i am not too worried, was just wondering if this extended time with the paci also counted!
