My goal was to have number when when LO#1 was old enough to do some things for herself. My friend has them 2.5years apart and its just about right. Her daughter is old enough to go get her shoes and bring them to her mom to put on, she can hold on and walk from the car to the store, etc. She was even lucky enough to potty train #1 before #2 came!

Also, there is some advantage to having them where they can play together and you don't have to sell/store all the baby gear!

LO is 7 months and we are trying for a second, but with BFing I'm sure it will take a bit. I know it will be hard to have two under two, but i love the idea of them being close in age and my inlaws are here two days a week, so I have help.

Mine are barely both under two (22 months apart) and it's doable but hard. If I didn't have a nanny it would be really, really hard. But I think it will get easier soon! My baby's just 7 weeks right now. I greatly look forward to potty training my son in a month or so!!

We did this. It was hard because Lala wasn't developmentally able to control her emotions very well when M came home and the first little while. At 2.5 she is just finally in a really good space about listening, helping and interacting with her sister. I'm starting to think that 2.5 years is the perfect age gap as I hear the experiences of my various friends' experiences compared to mine.

I will be a parent of kids 14 months apart.
I also have a friend with kids 13 months apart - she just had her second one month ago. She says its def hard, the hardest part was the first few weeks and falling into a routine but she says things are getting better.
I am prepared for a hard first few years but excited that they will also be able to be in many of the same activities and sports teams when that time comes. DH and I will not have to decide which game to watch or split up for each LO. Also, family trips should be interesting for all because they will be into the same things at the same times.
Im just thinking of all the positives and trying to focus on that for now!

My SIL did this (unplanned) as theirs were 19 months apart. I went and stayed with them for a month to help out. It was super tough.

The older baby didn't understand why her mom couldn't pick her up and had less time for her. She also constantly wanted to hold and touch the baby. After I left SIL stayed home for a few more weeks and then went back to work. They have a nanny for the youngest and the oldest goes to daycare.

Now I think it's getting a little easier because the oldest is approaching 2. I feel like for a lot of kids 2 is when they can understand things a little better.

Also SIL had to wean her oldest pretty abruptly and earlier than she had wanted to because it was too painful to nurse in her first trimester.

I definitely understand your desire to have them close, though! I wanted to do it too. But when I saw her situation I was relieved that we didn't. I'm pregnant now so mine should have a 2.5 year gap if all goes well

Our kids are 21 months apart, and although we had an adjustment period, I think this was a great age gap for us. If we have another, we'll shoot for a similar timeline.

Mine are 23 months and 3 weeks apart (they were suppose to be a little further apart, but someone came early!) and I love LOVE LOVE the age difference. DD is old enough that she can be pretty self sufficient, she understood that I couldn't pick her up in the beginning, and never acted out. And now, she's more than 2.5 and he's 9 months old, and she is his favorite person! He adores her and she him.

I have a friend that had her third baby when the second was 18 months old, and she said she wished she had a waited a little. I always forget how much an 18 month old is still a baby and needs a LOT of help and attention. But, I was really happy with almost two, DD did really well with no ::knock on wood:: jealousy issues!
