He's not trying to guilt you into staying, or saying that if he over sleeps, it's your fault, is he??? Even saying that is ridiculous imo. Tell him he's a grown ass man and adulting 101 includes waking himself up on time for work.

I think this is kind of a ridiculous thing to say, but I don't see the request - is he asking you not to go? To call him every morning?

I would definitely give my husband a side-eye if he suggested that making sure he got up in time for work was my job.

@crazydoglady: Ha! Husbands are so funny. My husband is a deep sleeper and I always have issues with waking him too early, or letting him sleep too late, blah blah blah. Teach him how to use apple phone alarms, and get him an alexa to stick next to his bed as another alarm. Some husbands need a little coddling and reassurance. I hope you enjoy your trip to see your sister!

@crazydoglady: So my husband is horrible about waking up in the morning. I used to worry or feel bad that I wouldn't be there to wake him up BUT then I decided it's not my issue. He is a grown up and I can't be there every morning of every day for the rest of our lives.

What I was willing to do was come up with a plan to help him wake up. We bought a couple of extra alarm clocks. He sets two alarms on his phone and then two alarm clocks in different spots across the room - volume as high as it can go on all of them. (I know this sounds insane but he is a deep sleeper, has been his whole life.) Also I agreed that if I don't hear from him 10 minutes before he is supposed to leave, I will call him.

I would not consider rescheduling your trip for this but I would be willing to help him come up with a plan.

@crazydoglady: I totally understand his worry. I would worry about that too in his position. A semi irrational worry really, but comes from a place of wanting to be responsible and stuff.

@crazydoglady: It does seem a bit silly that he's trying to put yet another thing on your plate - men can be so clueless sometimes.

I agree with others and would help him figure out a solution for those three days he's there alone. Maybe his mommy could come sleepover?

@crazydoglady: super serious question--how did he function before he met you? Like how did he get to his college classes, and to work, and to school?

When kids aren’t around I can be a really deep sleeper, so I actually do get your husband’s fear even if it isn’t rational. But seriously? Just set an alarm across the room. When I’ve been alone and had to get up extra early for a flight or something like that, I’ve always just set my phone as well as a regular alarm across the room as backup. That way I’ve been forced to physically get up. I’ve never had a problem.

If DW said this to me I would burst out laughing at her. Cmon now. He is a grown man and he actually said that out loud?! Figure it out buddy!

And that effects my trip how? ... would be my exact response if DH were to say that to me. I have myself, 2 kids and a dog to look after and that is plenty!
