Hey! Quick (probably silly) question
I'm mailing invitations to my sisters bridal shower, currently addressing envelopes -- are there style guidelines for what will be accepted? I started addressing them like the picture but my mom thinks that since they're scanned through the computer they may not be delivered because they aren't in typical format..
will these make it through?

I think so. Our wedding invitations were addressed similarly (and I've received other invitations like that) and we didn't have any trouble.

It probably would be fine since the number is still there but there may be a 20 cent charge. Check with your postmaster.

@MrsTiz: I think it should be fine. To reduce confusion I'd definitely put your return address on the back of the envelope though!

From my understanding when I was worrying about this with wedding invites... there are a lot of rules but it's sort of a crap shoot which of them they enforce based on where you drop them off/where they get run.
I don't know that style is a problem because you do have the address written out parallel with the long side of the envelope (they are big on that), but it is non-standard so I'd say its possible they will kick them back. Another thing is that technically the return address is supposed to go on the front, not the back of the envelope. That being said, for nice invites I think that looks ugly and I just did them on the back flap (and still do with anything nice I'm sending). I've had a few kicked back to me (they run them through the machine the wrong way and think the return address is the address and deliver them to me, ugh), but only like 4 ever and I've done it with hundreds of envelopes.
TL;DR: If you want to be safe, do it the normal way. But it will prob be fine.

There are no restrictions (per the USPS website). They give guidelines, but they are by no means restrictive. http://faq.usps.com/adaptivedesktop/faq.jsp?ef=USPSFAQ

Like others have said, sending something different through the post office is a crap shoot! I'd for sure take one down there and ask them first though.

I think it's fine but to be safe I would take it there myself and ask to hand stamp it. I did that with our save the dates and invites because I didn't want to risk the envelopes getting torn up.

I always put my address on the back if it's a hand addressed envelope, so I know my PO is pretty okay about that, I was just wondering if the vertical line would throw the machine off, but i'm going to go for it! Thanks everyone.
