YES! Aside from a few things I picked up retail when I first got pregnant, absolutely everything we've bought has been second hand. A few boxes of hand me downs but mostly from thrift stores. I'd guess we've spent maybe $200 and have an overflowing closet of clothes, blankets, hats, bibs for our twins that will take them through the first year. And it's all brands like Carters, BabyGap, Disney, Gymboree, Children's Place, Hannah Andersen, Nordstrom, etc. Most of it has been about 50 cents to 2 dollars a piece!

WOW to the clothes on craigslist! Seriously. Kids grow up so fast they probably only wear each item of clothing (during the first 6 months) a handful of times. I ended up buying all of my LO's clothes.. my mom loves to buy clothes for her too. We received a few onesies as gifts.

We luckily got a ton of hand me downs from my SIL and have added a few things from a great local thrift store. I got a few tbings at target on clearance when the prices were the same as the thrift store. When my LO outgrows things we will hand them down to my other SIL who is having a little girl in june. I love thrift store deals!

We have boxes and boxes of hand-me-downs. For the 1st year we didn't really need to buy anything for LJ. It was after a year that my Zulily addiction really kicked in!

We are going to do both Craigslist and consignment sales. We'll buy a few new things just because, but we are all for saving money where necessary!

@Mrsbells: it is interesting to me that you see it this way. When I shop for myself I expect clothes to last years. I don't buy things that are trendy, but basic pieces that I can mix and match. In the last year or two I've purged all the clothes that don't fit since I've gone up a size or two depending on when i bought them. My SIL has expanded her wardrobe greatly with some of my used clothes. I think its different for babies because they outgrow things so fast. If kids clothes fit for more than 1-3 months, then I would be more picky, but even the things we have bought new only seem to get worn a dozen times before he is too big. The second hand store in our town is very picky about what they buy, so everything they sell is really like new. Once ds is old enough to know the difference, we will be buying new for him.

There is a kids second hand shop in town that had all clothes 25 cents last week, I grabbed a ton! I've also been garage sale-ing and found some awesome bargains. My favorite was $1.00 for all the clothes you could put in a bag. I ended up with over 50 pieces of clothing for $2.00. I don't buy things that aren't in good condition or look too worn, but I'm happy to hunt and get a bargain!

Wow, that does sound like a good deal. I had some hand me downs from my SIL for the first few months. Otherwise, my mom buys most of DD clothes new. It is a lot of money to spend but at least we know we're having another girl so we can reuse things. But knowing my mom, she will buy new clothes anyway. She loves to shop.

Absolutely! A couple of my friends have two boys so their boy clothes are really worn out. But one friend has one 3 year old boy who is a total neat freak. GOLD MINE! She sends me all his clothes as he outgrows them and then I send them back as Maddox outgrows them. I'm a little neurotic with keeping clothes in pristine condition and line dry everything, so she's getting her clothes back in like-new condition too.

Great find!!! Yes I buy used clothes. It's cheaper and usually it's in great condition.

I always keep my eyes peeled for used clothes at thrift shopa, and the mom swap FB group I am on. The only hand me downs I got were clothes my mom saved of mine (about 50 smocked vintage dresses). I need to get her ready for fall/winter, and expect to buy a lot secondhand. My sisters in San Fran have access to awesome kids consignment, so they sent a lot of things when she was born. My mom also looks at goodwill and yardsales near her and grabs what she knows I would like. I figure, I have 3 younger sisters who will likely have kids eventually, and she might have a little sister someday so I plan on reusing whatever I have.

i LOVE second hand clothes. its so hard for me to buy clothes for him at stores after the good deals we got on craigslist. bags of high end clothes ( gap, polo,childrens place,janie and jack,) clothes for 40 bucks. plus we got TONS of clothes from P's baby shower so he has sooo many clohtes, that i dont have to go shopping for a longg time.

I am SUPER picky about used stuff...I get weirded out if it shows any signs of wear. My mom says I am snobby but maybe I'll be different with LO#2?

To humor her, I went with her to a pretty nice baby consignment shop and I actually got some super cute Juicy Couture and Baby Gap stuff for around $4-$8 each:). I don't like when, for example, used dresses from BG are missing the diaper cover I know they're supposed to have, etc., but this place had some nice excellent-condition items. With the diaper covers:)

Yep! My sister had a daughter taht is almost a year to the date older than my LO so we are set on clothes (she went nuts.) I am very picky when it comes to consignment shops, but if I find gently/rarely worn stuff I"m nto against getting it! I got some brand new fleece sleepers recently that still had tags on them for $3!

I just found a bunch of clothes at various consignment stores - great deals! We have probably 35 outfits in various sizes, and have spent less than $50.

Most of our stuff is brand new. I'd love gently used hand me downs and while we've gotten a few, it's not much. I've purchased a couple almost new looking items at a consignment sale but that's it. I scour the clearance racks at baby gap and old navy

Yeah, I love resale and consignment shops for my daughter and for me. Especially for babies, who grow out of clothing so fast. I'm more willing to spend real money on myself, when I know I can wear something basically forever. But my baby will just grow out of it, and she'll probably get it filthy or full of holes anyway. So I mix cheap but cute carter's stuff with sale finds from good stores and fun resale clothing. I prefer nice brands for her, but I'm unlikely to find them worth it new.

Today I spent $8 dollars on a pair of unworn shoes. Go home to look it up and find that they retail for $40. Score.

I just received a TON of clothes, going up through 2T and LO isn't even here yet.

@glimmersnaps: Uh, yeah. That is like my county. There aren't any "consignment" or thrift shops in my city at all. I have to dry out to other cities to even find a Goodwill or something, and then the few clothes they have I can find cheaper NEW on sale! i.e a used Carter's thing could be $3-4! Yeah and sweaters that are like
My sister has found some great stuff at a Catholic thrift shop in her town, so we've gotten some great (even new) stuff from there. But I almost find it pointless for me unless I happen upon a thrift shop by chance.
