Nearly all new. I know this makes me sound like a snob or whatever, but I just don't like hand me down clothes. I can afford to buy them new clothes, my mom LOVES buying her grandkids clothes, as does DH's mum, and I just don't particularly like secondhand clothes full stop. I don't buy secondhand for myself, nor DH, and I don't want to buy them for my girls.
We have been give some bags of hand me down clothes from various well meaning family members, but I always donate them to charity. DH's sister gave us a huge bag of Mini Boden clothes her best friend was getting rid of, all sizes 5 and 6, so I'm hoping she'll forget she gave them to us by the time the girls fit into those sizes as I've already donated most of them! Sigh, maybe I'm a terrible snob but I just really only want brand new clothes for myself and the girls....
ETA: even DD2's clothes are nearly all new. I don't even put her in DD1's hand me downs unless it is something she either never wore, or wore maybe once.

I've just recently started purchasing gently worn clothes, mostly from various BST groups. It's typically the higher end stuff that I wouldn't want to pay full retail for, and rarely goes on sale. I love it b/c I can get boutique brand dresses for <$20, and resell them when she's done wearing it in a year or so - it's like renting clothes! It's great for someone like me who loves to shop and have a wide range of clothes to choose from.

I do a mix of both but I LOVE finding a good deal on used clothes. She probably has more used than new in her closet right now.

We have a few hand me downs but our hand me down sources are five and six years older so the clothes are dated.
My dad spends way too much time and money shopping for the girls. So much so that I could probably not buy them anything any they'd still have too much. The girls also have nine aunts, only one of whom has another little girl to shop for. 85% of their clothes are gifts.
Of course I buy stuff for them too because I cannot help myself sometimes. I never pay full price for anything and can usually beat the prices of the consignment shops around here.
Having two girls makes me want to buy new stuff because I know it's stuff I like, that will for sure be worn again by #2.

I thought I'd want all new, being the second child myself I always had my sisters hand me downs and I hated it! Now my daughter has her cousins hand me downs! I like the idea of reducing my consumerism and my sister really has purchased amazing clothes for her kids. When E is older though I'll probably buy more for her when she has a sense of what she likes and dislikes.

A mix. We have a fair amount of new stuff because most people we know have kids the same age, so not too much opportunity for hand me downs. I love consignment sales though, there is a huge one in our area twice a year.

@Ree723: I don't think you are a snob! I also buy tons of new stuff for little brother. I don't buy used clothes for myself, so I never thought to do it for my kids. My husband is also third boy in his family and he rarely got anything brand new. He is very anti hand me downs.

I'm not opposed to used but don't really care for the few hand me downs we've been given and never seem to have luck with consignment. I should try harder. I don't buy him expensive clothes but I don't really have a budget. I think I'd need a budget with a little girl.

I am all about secondhand. They grow out of everything so fast, I just can't even handle the idea of purchasing all that stuff new. I've accepted lots of used baby clothes from friends and from our local buy-nothing group. Once LO is bigger I plan to do most of her shopping at our neighborhood Goodwill. I feel pretty confident we can continue to expect that relatives will gift a few new outfits so she's always going to have some cute seasonal stuff anyway.

A mix. We got a lot of hand me downs for the first year, but not so much 12m and up. I love to shop and if I find a good deal on something cute, I'll get it whether used or new. I especially look for used on the high end stuff I like, but don't want to pay full price for like Hanna Anderson or Skylar Luna pjs.

I've bought a ton of used clothing in HB. It saves me money when I see something in a lot. We also buy her clothing when she has a growth spurt, but I never buy full price, always on clearance and with an extra discount on top.

All new. We are the only people we know with a girl so no hand me downs. I always buy on sale a season ahead so I don't pay full price for anything.
However if LO#2 is a boy we already have hand me downs stashed away for him from LO cousin and I am sure our friends with boys will pass things along.

i probably buy about 85% of my son's clothes from consignment stores. i'm seriously addicted. they're like $2-$3 a piece and barely worn. i just wash them first and we're good to go.

@Ree723: I'm really curious about the reason for your objection to used clothing. Would you mind sharing?
We got so many hand-me-downs. I'd say about 80% of LO's clothes so far were given to us and the rest mostly bought at Once Upon a Child.

@Orchid: Just personal preference I guess! I was raised in a family that never bought anything used (don't get me wrong, it wasn't expensive stuff but it was always new) and that mindset has carried over. I don't like washed out looking clothes, which to be honest, after a couple of washings, clothes lose their crispness and start to look worn, so hence why I don't bother with hand me downs. And as for consignment shops, that's more to do with my shopping preferences. I abhor rifling through racks looking for things; I like to take a glance at a rack, where everything is the same in different sizes and decide if I like it. Racks of all kinds of random clothes drive me nuts... I can't even shop clearance racks in a store as the disorganisation puts me off so much. Thank goodness for online shopping as at least there I can look for bargains without the chaos!
Yeah, maybe I'm a bit ridiculous but what are you going to do? I never pay full prices for things so to me, buying new doesn't feel like a gross extravagance. And like I said, both grandmas go nuts shopping, (I've bought maybe 15% of the girls' wardrobe at the most), and neither one of them will buy anything other than new, so it is what it is I guess.
@Mamasig: Lol, glad I'm not the only one!

@Ree723: ok. I get that. I don't have a lot of patience with shopping in general and even less if it requires the effort thrift/consignment shopping does, so I understand.

I never buy second hand but my daughter has lots of handme downs from my cousins. We're also careful to package up everything that is still in good shape so we can pass it on too. My son isn't getting handme downs so I buy everything new. I justify it by knowing I'll be able to pass nice stuff on to family and friends.

I buy a lot of used. Maybe 80% of what I buy is used, mixed in with a few items I got on sale. I try and get basics (solid onesies, socks etc) new because they get a lot more wear.

Entirely used. Vastly prefer used for a multitude of reasons, the most shallow of which is that I buy higher-end brands (Boden, Hanna, Tea, etc) for a fraction of the cost!

Almost everything I buy for myself is used. I just enjoy getting "new" clothes more frequently than I could justify if I was paying full price. Used maternity is a little harder to find, so I wind up dressing nicer (well, more new, so often more trendy) when pregnant than I normally do.
LO already has plenty of used clothes because my mom keeps hitting up consignment stores. She'll have some new too, since sometimes I just can't resist the cuteness, but unless we need something specific I expect her to be in more used like me.

LO1 was mainly gifted and new clothes. LO gets lots of hand me downs and finds from the classifieds here on HB. When I buy new I always look for a great sale (crew cuts for the price of target clothes or cheaper).
