If you used a family name for your LO...did you want to do this or did another family member encourage it?

We wanted to; it meant a lot to me and I know that it brought comfort to other family members as well.

we are using my dad's name as our son's middle name. he never mentioned it to us - we chose it - but I could tell he was so honored!

We wanted to. We had a few non-family names on the list, but the emotional attachment to the family names won out.

We wanted to. DD's middle name is my middle name, DS's first name is a family name for DH's side, and DS's middle name is DH's middle name.

We are Team Green, but will be using family names regardless of whether we have a boy or a girl. Our decision has nothing to do with pressure/encouragement from our families...they don't even know and the names will be a surprise

We're using DH's grandfather and my stepdad's name for our son's middle name. We decided to do it on our own and both were thrilled! IF we have another one (BIG if), we'll use a family name again.

I would like to do it (no LO yet) for middle names and no one has pressured for it. I just think it would be nice.

DH wanted to use his parents' names for middle names and I was fine with it. They both sounded good with the first names we had chosen and it makes my in-laws happy. Now if we have two girls, I supposed 2nd LO should get my mom's name as a middle name, but her name is much harder to "flow" with from a first name, if that makes sense?

we have picked a middle name that keeps with the tradition of a family name, but isn't exactly the same. no one knows it except DH and i, so we definitely picked it!

We are using the initials LH (DH's paternal family tradition) and picked LO's first name in part because it was his maternal grandpa's middle name. He just passed away at the beginning of September.
If we have a girl i would like to give her a middle name that has significance in my family.

Our LO's will share her middle name with FIL, it's his mom's maiden name

We wanted to do it. No pressure from anyone, but it made the whole family happy (all of our nephews have a family name as either a first or middle name). In our case, we did both: LO is Evan Charles, DH's middle name, FIL's middle name, and his paternal grandmother's maiden name is Evans, and MIL's maiden name is Charles. Passing on Evan(s) wasn't really a necessity, but I wanted to do it and DH was on board.

If we have another child and it's a boy, he'll be in some way named after my FIL who passed away this year. We'll probably honor my grandmother in some way as well.

If we have a son, his middle name will be Michael. It's my dad's name, and my father-in-law's middle name, and my brother-in-law's first name. It's a great way to honor both sides of the family, plus I've just always loved the name Michael. No pressure from anyone in the family.

We wanted to do it because it's such a unique name and because the person we got the name from was such an amazing person.
