I just hosted a baby shower in Brooklyn, and found the perfect place! Lark Cafe: http://www.larkcafe.com/ - we rented out the whole cafe, and it wasn't super expensive. They let you bring in your own catering, if you want, or you can order from them. They have a sister cafe too, Elk Cafe, which has a backyard that you can rent out (or you can rent out that cafe, but it's a bit bigger and more expensive).

@Beehive: Chadwick’s in Bay Ridge. It is an old school Italian place, not trendy at all. But the food is excellent, reasonable priced, they have a private room and the staff is super nice. They also have valet parking bc parking down there is awful. I did both of my kids baptism luncheons there and have been to a number of bridal and baby showers there.

I had my bridal shower in the back room of Lucey's Lounge in Gowanus. I don't think they charged my friends anything to reserve the space and they were great about setting up the tab and letting us bring in outside food and decorations.

@MrsBucky: in September I co-hosted a shower at Maison May in Ft Greene (formerly iCi) and it was *beautiful* and really reasonably priced--$33/head including coffee/juice/food/gratuity. There was no other fee which most places have for bigger parties. My friend who co-hosted and I did a ton of research (she is a food writer so pretty good at that sort of thing) and it was the least expensive of all the pretty places we looked at by quite a bit. They were also really easy to deal with, and while we were there the restaurant wasn't packed.

We hosted a baby shower for my sister-in-law at Home/Made in Red Hook. It's a beautiful and comfortable space. The food was great. I would definitely recommend it.
