@MrsBucky: We knew he could hold it due to the dry diapers he was having. I plan on allowing him to have any drink he wants this weekend. I'm still debating bringing out a new game - supposed to be his Christmas gift - to bribe him.

I did get him to go to daycare this morning in underwear, but it was a 15 minute crying with him saying "S NEEDS a diaper!"

@Adira: We tried with my son at 2y7m, 2y9m and 2y11m, and every time was basically a disaster. Then when he turned 3, it was like a switch flipped - it wasn't all sunshine and roses, there were definitely still accidents and a few tears, but it was like night and day in terms of his acceptance of it. He just made up his mind that he wanted to do it I think, and up to that point no amount of cajoling or bribes helped us. Hopefully your son is at or nearly at that point now!

@Adira: it’s not a 3 day weekend for me but it is for DH and the kids. DS started potty training at daycare this week but I haven’t asked DH to do it tomorrow yet. I’m assuming he won’t.

DD was a stubborn potty trainee. We had to back off the timed schedule. She hated being put on the potty at a pre-set interval. She only needed to go every 4 hours or so. We changed from timed intervals to wake up, leaving the house, pre-nap, post nap, pre dinner, pre bed. It was more in sync with her body and she just started going at those times with very few accidents.

@Adira: I read a boot camp type book before potty training DS. He was very stubborn and the tip liked the best from the book was to have the child clean up after an accident. The idea is they will realize that going in the potty is less of a hassle than going on the floor/in underwear, etc.

We had a pee and a poop on the carpet. The poop she actually stood up from being on the potty and went on the carpet and pooped. Now she is afraid of the potty.

We don't have a long weekend, but I am going to encourage DD to try the potty a bunch this weekend. Every few weeks she decides she wants to wear underwear and like @Mrs. Toad: 's DS she holds it until nap and bedtime. She gets really mad if we suggest she use the potty when she doesn't have to go. We sometimes will read her stories or let her watch Elmo on the potty and by chance she'll pee then. We've actually had more luck with poop.

Any suggestions for getting a pee-holder to actually pee on the potty? I don't think she's intentionally being stubborn nor do I think she's scared - I think she honestly doesn't know how to make herself go.

@Adira: Good ideas. We sort of know her pattern but I should pay more attention. Maybe I'll let her have juice as a potty training treat this weekend.

@Adira: 27 months today. I know it is a little young but she loves to have her dolls sit on "potties" (aka chairs) so I figured I would give it a try. I don't know if this is more of an experiment to see how she handles it or how I handle it!

@Ms. RV: Great idea! And my DD is the same age as yours. She's potty trained all her dolls so I know she gets it. I'm not in a hurry to train her, but it seems like if she's into it we should try, you know?

During one of her underwear days a few weeks back she had an accident and it totally freaked her out. We completely dropped any use of the potty for a week or two and then the next time she was cool with it (wouldn't pee, but wasn't scared to sit on it).

@Dahlia: Those are my thoughts too! They take her to the potty every two hours at school and in three months has not once gone on the potty, so I am not very optimistic about this weekend.

@Adira: I'd say that is pretty good for Day 1. I hope today goes good!

We are out. Either DD just got the fifth disease rash or she has an eczema break out from crying. Either way, not fair to her to continue.
