I had LO at 34 weeks. DH and I were planning to start TTC for #2 in late September/early August. Since we have had LO, we have moved, so I needed to switch doctors. When I went to the doctor today we talked about my history and she suggested we wait until LO is 18 months before TTC for LO #2. Was anyone else told this?

My BFF had her baby 6 weeks early and she was given the okay to TTC when LO was six months old. They got pregnant when he was 8 months.

I personally was told I was okay to stary TTCing when every I wanted to.
BUT I have a good friend that she was told to wait till her LO was at least 2 years before trying again because she had gestational diabetes. I thought that was weird.

I learned in a nutrition class in college that it's ideal for all women to wait at least 18 months in between pregnancies in order to let your body fully recover and replenish itself.

I had a csection with #1 and was never told how long to wait before trying/getting pregnant again. When I got pregnant at 6 months pp I was nervous the doc would say I should have waited, but he said by 6 months you should be pretty healed

I had my LO 4 weeks early (went into labor 7 weeks early) and my Dr didnt mention waiting that long. They actually advised me to not wait too long since I want 3 and I am already 32 just do try and avoid other issues. They were happy and didnt say anything further when I said I was planning on waiting atleast 12 months.

I was high risk and not told this.
I do think if you don't wait at least a year and were high risk the first time, it makes your chance of high risk higher? But I've never heard 18 months. The fall is close enough!

@littlek: No but I think 18 months is the recommended child spacing to lower the risk of preterm delivery, etc. I'm not sure it was because of having your first baby at 34 weeks, though it could have been.

I was told two years or longer between deliveries is ideal in terms of your body's reserve of nutrients and particularly for cesarean healing.

My doctor told me basically what @ChelseaRose was told. My LO is 2 now, so hoping to not have problems in the future.

Yes, and I didn't have a complicated pregnancy. I didn't wait quite that long, but all the women I know who have had preemies have been told to wait at least 18 months. Risk of having a premature baby if you conceive before 18 months has passed since birth is much higher.

I know some doctors will advise you to wait 12-18 months if you've had a csection but my doctors never said anything about waiting. I got my BFP with #2 a few days shy of 18 months PP. My doctors haven't said anything about spacing so far and are on board with me trying for a VBAC.

I should add that my sister had her first at 34 weeks out of the blue. Got pregnant less than a year later and was in bed rest at 27 weeks. Number 3 she got pregnant less than a year later again and was on bed rest from 20 wks on. She made it to full term with 2 and 3 though.

When I went for my 6 week pp checkup with my OB she asked me about birth control and said it was best to wait until LO was a year old to have another... I thought that was kinda weird, she said it was best for your body. I had a totally healthy pregnancy, delivered 2 days after my due date and had lost almost all of the baby weight when I saw her... We are probably going to start trying a little before LO is one.

I had LO on time and things went well. At my 6 week appt my OB went over birth control options. She said just be careful because you may be in here sooner than you wish if you are nursing and don't take BC or don't take it consistently. She never mentioned how long to wait, even with a healthy pregnancy so this is interesting to me!

I'm high risk, and at my postpartum visit after losing S at full term, my OB office gave me the go ahead for whenever I'm ready. Never heard of waiting 18 months...I know plenty of people who didn't!

@winniebee: That's very similar to me! I'm really hoping for no bedrest and a full term baby. I dream big.

@Bao: I was surprised too, because I delivered vaginally. I've heard about higher risk when you are dealing with C sections because your body needs more time to heal.

I was told to wait 18 months so my csection would heal completely, but was then give the go-ahead when I was 14 months PP (I had my yearly then).
