Always a dream of mine.

Nope, it was never a dream of mine. I always imagined I'd live a cool city life. Seeing how badly my husband wants a family has made me want one too.

Yes and no. I put a lot of things on hold for my career. So, yes, it was always in the far, far, recesses of my mind and, no, because I was far too preoccupied to really consider it as an immediate option! My little sister already has 2 kids, and I know I would have regretted not having/adopting any.

Yes, I have dreamed about having kids since I was young.

Yes. Being a mommy has always been my dream job.

Always. But I did wait longer to have them then I thought I would and got to do some traveling and finish a lot of schooling.

Not really! There were other things I wanted to do, but when I got pregnant at 30 I felt like I had experienced quite a bit and so I felt more ready. But still, sometimes I wish I could have my freedom back, even though I wouldn't trade LO for anything.

Yep, always my dream. A very serious relationship was ended because he had no intention of ever having children - it was a deal breaker for me.

Never really had any other dreams or aspirations for my life other than having a family. I'm a work to live person. I'm lucky to have a great job though! @Bookworm: I work at a museum! But in the offices, not the galleries.

not really! I didn't have other plans, I was just never very maternal. like, at all. people still say they're surprised I'm a mother.

It was all I ever wanted to be - but not in the way it is panning out! I wanted to be a mum-mum, you know, who churned out a child every other year, kept the house tidy and baked cookies and did craft projects and helped out at the school fete. I was top-of-the-class at virtually everything at school but never really became interested in any future careers because I honestly never wanted to be anything else..... but this isn't how my life has turned out. I have to be a working mum.... It's hard because generally when I want something I can work hard for it and make it happen but this is something I can't do myself. It's okay, we will make it work, but it's funny how your dreams can come true but not all at the same time!

Yes. Post-college, I mostly tried to organize my life to have children. Things didn't work out quite as planned, but I knew I wanted to be a mother, so "would be a fantastic dad" was my sole requirement when I was dating.

Regarding loss of freedom: I think the previous posters have children under 2, right? Wait a year or so. It gets a LOT easier to go do things with an almost-preschooler! We don't take LO to wine bars or the opera (just yet!), but we can do things like hiking, surfing, swimming, eating out, and even traveling much more easily than we could just six months ago. DH and I picked up a new joint hobby recently that requires us to take hour-long lessons, and LO comes along and watches (okay, sometimes he runs around and tries to copy us and our instructor, but he's well-behaved the whole time even if we're not watching him like a hawk). My house is even spotlessly clean once and a while! Bottom line: It gets significantly easier to do whatever it is that you love to do with a small sidekick once they get just a little older.

I always wanted a child deep down but there were some years where I considered not ever having kids. Boy am I ever glad I had one.

yep always a dream! dh and i feel so blessed that we were able to accomplish what we did prior to ds... he came at just the rt point in our lives and we're so so excited for our growing family in the future!

Yes and no? I did not want kids when I was in high school but over time, my mind changed but I wouldn't really say it was a dream for me. My dream was to travel and explore the world and I still think of it often but it's not going to happen and it makes me sad.

It was part of how I pictured my life to be, but it wasn't a "dream" in the sense of the be all, end all, how I define myself.
