My mom was a SAHM. She never really went back to work once my sister and I grew up either. I would say that her decision to be a SAHM definitely affects my own decisions. While I really appreciate that she stayed at home to raise us, it upsets me that she let her very high intelligence level and ivy league education go to waste by never re-joining the work force. I have fought to make gains in my career, and I will continue to be a working mom while I raise my kids. On the one hand, I would love to take a few years off to be at home while my kids are young, but that isn't a possibility if I want to stay in my line of work for the long run.
