My husband has been doing a lot with the house and he thinks I haven't been pulling my weight...he assigned me the task of selecting a washer and dryer. I don't care how it looks but he wants a more modern style.
Help! What was important for you when you selected your washer and dryer? What is your washer capacity?
We cloth diaper and we will be a family of 4 and possibly 5 in the future.

We have an LG washer and dryer. I looooove them. They are high efficiency and pretty. Win win!

I have a front load and CD. I love that ours has programable cycles. So I put it on a heavy duty setting and then it remembers that when on Heavy Duty I like to add a pre rinse, extra wash, and extra rinse with high soil level (key for extra water in a FLer). That whole routine takes almost 2 hours but its not too bad because I dump the diapers in and don't have to touch it until its done. We have the Samsung.
I also love that our dryer has the steam dry feature for removing wrinkles! Love it!

Definitely capacity. I also wanted a high efficiency washer and dryer and a washer with an eco-friendly option. Sometimes my loads take longer to do with the eco option, but it's worth it in my opinion.
We ended up with the a whirlpool duet front load set. Love them!

@.twist.: I agree with load size. I can do all our bedding in one load! Thats a set of king sheets, plus her crib sheets, plus some blankets in one load! It makes saturday morning chores much nicer!

We cloth diaper and purchased a Maytag Bravos XL HE Top Load Washer (4.6 cu ft capacity) and a matching dryer (7.3 cu ft capacity, gas rather than electric for us). I preferred a top loader to a front loader because with cloth diapers, having the ability to add more water if necessary was important and a front loader doesn't easily have that option. It has held up great and I'd definitely purchase one again. We chose it after tons of research. You'll see reviews where the washer tore up people's clothes but realistically, you have to read the manuals on newer machines and choose the right settings, like any electronic piece of equipment. We have never had this issue and choose settings to match what we are washing, not the general "everything" setting.

We have to buy for our new house as well. My only requirements are high efficiency and a top loader. I hate the front loaders that the condo has. They don't seem to clean the clothes as well. I also have heard from numerous people how hard they are to keep clean.

We have the whirlpool steam duet front loaders. I definitely wanted a large capacity because we do loads and loads of laundry at our house, and that's sans kiddos!!

When I was younger, I never thought I would care about appliances . . . for example, I just couldn't wrap my brain around people getting excited about non-trip packages in the Showcase Showdown on Price is Right. 
I so get it now!
We have the front-loading LG washer/dryer that look great and are really awesome machines. I even like the little tune they play when the wash/dry cycle is complete.

I have heard that toploading is better than front for CDing...but I'm not sure exactly why! We're not in the market for a new washer/dryer so I didn't pay attention to details.

The model we purchased has programable cycles, so CD laundry is easy. Once we got our system down, it's a matter of pressing some buttons. We get around the "extra water" issue by first running a rinse cycle with no spin. The washer has gotten "dirty" in the past, but once you figure out how to keep it clean, you do what you need to do.

We got a front-load HE washer & dryer when we moved to this house a couple of years ago. I LOVE that the HE washer uses less water and can self-adjust the water and wash time based on the weight and amount of clothes in the machine!
I waited for after-Thanksgiving sales to get a good deal though. My tip is to keep an eye out for mailers and online and buy online with free shipping if you can! I also bought all our appliances online clicking through Ebates (which you get a % cash-back) and they often have discount codes too!
Besides price, my main criteria included color, a reliable brand, and good user reviews.
My sister & BIL had to get theirs recently too and found a GREAT deal at a re-seller that sells things that were returned to places like Costco that don't re-stock returns. If you can find one of those places, you can find some gems too! I went with her and Googled the model she found there immediately on my phone to quick check prices and read user reviews.
